One of my local fishing friends asked me about Powell Rods yesterday. I did know that they were a top (California) fly rod several years ago, but had not seen any here in the Midwest. I Googled them and they do make baitcasting and Spin rods.
Anyone out there have any experience with these rods?

A guy bought the Rod company several years ago. You are right – they did make higher end fly rods.

He created a full line of Bass Rods. All made in China – I think. They are ok and have a pretty solid west coast following.

He may put your on his pro staff as he is always looking for Midwest exposure – in the land of St. Croix.

I checked out their website and was intrigued by the fact that the spin rods were all Extra-fast actions. A lot of other companies are leery of the fine front end/taper diameters needed to make thos actions.
If they fish as well as a St. Croix I would definitely give one a try
In this economy not many are going to send you a rod to try out…

All the Rods were designed for the Bass Guy –

    Hence the faster actions.

I switched from St Croixs to Powells last year. (not a dis to St Croix, cause they are obviously awesome rods) However I prefer the Powells because they are extremely light weight and balanced perfectly. Due to them being a CA company they are, as you have found out, not known about up here too well compared to St Croix.

Like said above, they are a bass series or rods, but Im sure the spinning rods can be adapted to your walleye needs, unless you don’t want an extra fast action.

Lifetime warranty on all rods is a plus, although I have yet to have to use it. And my customer service experience has always been great.

Only negative is that the blanks are crafted overseas which is an important factor to some folks.

All my spin rods used for casting jigs/plastics/blades and dragging are extra fast actions. Thats a good thing!
