The ABS light came on today on my 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan. I tested the ABS today and it did not kick in. I know it was working a couple days ago. Is there anything I should check first, or does it need to be brought in? Thanks in advance.

you probably have a bad wheel speed sensor , take it to a shop and have it scanned ,they will tell you exactly why it is on

Is it throwing a code at all? Many parts store will read those for no charge, may point you in the right direction. Could be as easy a fouled rotor/caliper sensor (snow, ice, ick), or as said a bad sensor regardless.

There could be some ice build up. I noticed the steering wheels a little shaky at slow speeds.

Start with a car wash, go to a self serve one with the wand. Hit the wheels with it and go from there? Just a thought. My FW’s Bug does this and the fix works on her car, not sure about yours?

We just had our ABS come on and we had it in the shop,’03’ Town & Country, Turned out to be a bad wire to the sensor. New wire connector $17.00 and we’re good to go. If it is a sensor they quoted $169.00. Got off Lite. They didn’t see the wire at first because of the shield and when they removed it to get to the sensor they found the wire. An honest shop.

Thanks for all the replies. I parked it in the heated garage at work tonight and everything is working properly again.

Just had the same problem on the 02 Exploder (Explorer) and that was my problem. After replacing the rear speed sensor the light is off and the the abs is working again. It was not cheap and pain free for me. I think it was around 200 bucks.
