I would go with the sony LCD, great picture and quality. Stay away from the JVC DILA as I’ve got one and have to replace the $200 bulb one a year.

I just bought a 42″ Vizio LCD 1080p 240HZ at Sam’s Club for under $700. So far so good, best deal I saw and amazing picture.

Whether you go plazma or lcd depends on where in the house it will be. Also what kind of lighting the room has.

Agree! I have a Sony also. Add a PS3 and Surround along with that and you’re set for days of ice fishing in the shack !

I got a 46″ Samsung LCD 120Hz from Amazon about a month ago with free shipping for $997. So far I love it.

I’m a samsung fan – I bought a 50 inch plasma 720px for $499. I don’t do the blueray so the 720 didnt bother me at all – I don’t really see the differance in the picture – but I was upgrading from a tube tv lol.

If price is not the issue I would go for a 1080 – if it is – 720 works fine for me!

I just went threough this and I’ve been watching the papers since the week after Thanksgiving.

My target was a 46″ LCD 1080p with 120Hz or better.

Here are the best deals I’ve come accross since:
    Toschiba – 46″ LCD 1080p with 120Hz $899 – multiple locations
Sony – 46″ LCD 1080p with 120Hz + PS3 + Good PS3 Game + Crappy Blueray Movie – Best buy (This is the best deal I found but it sold out before I could take advantage)
    Samsung 52″ LCD 1080p with 120Hz + Bluray Player – $1250 – I bought this two weeks ago

Currently at ultimate Electronics there are a few TVs in the $1250 range for a 52″ LCD 1080p with 120Hz.

From Consumer Reports here is the brand reliability: (Brand – Repairs and Serious problems %)

    LCD
    JVC – 2
    Sony – 2 –
    Sylvania 2
    Panasonic – 2
    Sanyo – 3
    Sharp – 3
    Vizio – 3
    Samsung – 3
    Toshiba – 4
    LG – 4
    Philips – 4
    Magnavox – 5
    Hitachi – 5
    Westinghouse – 8
    Mitsubishi – 11

    Plasma
    Sanyo – 2
    Panasonic – 2
    Pioneer – 3
    Hitachi – 3
    Samsung – 3
    LG – 5

If you have to get up to change the channel I would shy away from that model. Also, if rabbit ears come standard, rather than as an option, might want to keep clear of that one too. Hey, I probably just described BK’s TV!

We purchased a 47″ LG LCD a few weeks back after doing a fair amount of research. LG bought out Zenith, so they aren’t a “new” brand in that sense. It was the first TV I’ve purchased since 1991. Wow, have they improved…
