    Sony….

Daughter just fried the HD on the Lenovo. I’ve fried 2 HD’s in less then 2 yrs on Dell…..

    Next one is Sony…..

Hard drives used today are not proprietary. all of the bigger named companies use name brand drives, such as seagate, western digital, toshiba, etc. if your lenovo is frying hard drives, it could be a bad run of drives.

Dell had a bad run of hard drives with their Latitude D600 series years ago.

The company i work for now uses all Dell products for fat client products, and HP for thin client products. my last employer, GE, one of the largest companies in the world, used all dell client machines, and we had good success with them.

now, for servers, and network level equipment, i have some pretty biased opinions, but, for client machines, find the options you want, for the price you want, and as long as its one of the bigger, more reputable brands, you’ll be just fine. kind of like the whole – chevy, ford, dodge thing.

About 2 years ago I bought the cheapest Compaq on sale at Best Buy. Vista OS. More free software than I need. Bought a wireless mouse and a carry bag. Out the door under $450. No problems. Does what I need at home and on the road. Connect to open wireless internet. E-mail. Pictues and video uploads and burn CD’s. Im a happy customer!

Trev, do not purchase from Best Buy as mfg’s put in cheaper components in their units to sell to BB. Lots of problems with laptops bought through them.Just a heads up for you

Mike, how do you know this? I am looking at the same exact Dell laptop, from Best Buy it is $100 cheaper than buying it directly from Dell. Give me some info man!
    Thanks, HRG

what specs do you have? big box stores usually try and skimp in processor core, hd cache and speed and ram speed. at least thats what sams club did to my folks’ desktop.

for the Insipron 14z (1470) model I’m commparing, BestBuy to Dell:

    Same SU7300 800MHz/3mb cache/1.3GHz processor
    Same 4GB DDR3 ram
    Same 320GB 7200rpm SATA HD
    Same 6-cell battery
    Same X4500HD video

See the problem? How can BB be almost $100 less than Dell?
    Thanks, HRG
