Well, the one thing good that comes out of it is maybe getting a law changed. I know that won’t be popular here since people probably think that not releasing these fish has a positive affect on the fishery. Seems silly when we can throw our carp and buffalo back in to the water.

Just to clarify that statement, Netters can’t throw back carp or buffalo. Anglers can and should.

    Edited to add detail.

From the 2009 Minnesota Fishing Regs:

    – Any fish that is caught and will not be utilized must be immediately returned alive back into the water. A person cannot wantonly waste a fish that is caught by leaving it or any usable portion on the ice, thrown up on the bank, or intentionally killing it and returning it back into the water unless authorized.

    – Depositing fish entrails or fish parts into public waters or onto lake or stream shores is prohibited.

Yeah, I don’t get it. I don’t get how this law hampers commercial netters and I don’t get where this law came from.

Why would someone that gets paid for them want to throw them back and how big of a problem would it be to have a law made for it??

I think it is the carp. From what I am getting out of this, they only take the buffalo. Plus, I am sure there are some sized buffalo and carp that are too small. So my guess is the sorting is a little more time consuming.
