IDO on Channel 5

Channel 5 is looking into the commercial netting issues on Pool 4 and other areas around the State. They are taking a look from the DNR viewpoint, the Commercial Netter’s viewpoint, and where IDO comes in…the “Average Joe’s” take on what they see. I am going to focus on IDO end of things and how this website brings folks together to share ideas on our lakes and rivers around the State.

    Any comments or ideas?

Susanna called me this morning, I told her NO!!!
I also told her the story is done and nothing illegal has been done. I also forward the article from the Rochester bulletin to her. She was very persistent about wanting to come and film me but I just had to pass and tell her “NO”

I like your approach Chris however I would be very careful to what you say as they like to chop, cut and edit things to the way they want them and not actually to what was being said. Good luck and I am looking forward to seeing the story

As I said…I am ONLY speaking about IDO and our ability to take and discuss items like this in a “Forum” type of format. I am not putting IDO in a position that they are taking sides from one way or the other.

JJ, the media taking things out of context and twisting them around, they don’t do that… They want the story out. Ha yeah right, that is a great point you bring up. If someone does go as far as an on camera interview make sure you record the whole thing with your own camera, when they ask why you can tell them so when you edit what I say and brodcast bits and pieces to alter the meaning I can have the real copy and put that out.

The story is going on with or without IDO being part of it. You all have valuable viewpoints that can be voiced right here. You do it every day. I imagine that there will be a few more people poking around IDO to see what we are all about after it. If the piece is out of line or innacurate…you have your soapbox here to jump on.

Tuck I think you could make the point that the Internet has changed how the “average Joe” gets information. Very quickly one person….who isn’t a government official or a newsreader….can get information in front of a lot of people in a short amount of time. That wasn’t true 15 or 20 years ago. IDO is an excellent example of this, as well as a lot of other sites out there. The game has changed as well as the expectations.

    Good luck with the interview.

They will not make it to my office unfortunately.
They are interviewing commercial netters. BK however may have a cameo.

Almost? What’s it going to take to get you on the right side? We need a person with the ability to influence like only you can do……..

Need a ride on P4 later this week? Friday perhaps?

I took a Channel 5 reported out for a couple hours to do a story on the Croix. The camera is on all the time and what ends up in a 2.5 minute story is not always what is expected.

The second camera is a good idea…

I saw that river video the other day with all the dead fish on the bottom and it made me wonder if this also happens on Mille Lacs with all the nets. This could be pretty devistating seeing there are many more nets on Mille Lacs in the spring. After seeing that I think this is something that needs to be looked into.

I doubt it would look the same since gill nets are actually designed to snare and hold fish in the net. I don’t think you would see many dead fish ‘off’ the netting.

They either promo’ed it for the 10pm news, or it will be on here shortly on the 6:30 pm show.

They reported a few viewpoints. Showed the Youtube video, a few posts from IDO, one by James Holst. The “What a waste” post and others. Nothing real earth shattering. Thumbs up to KSTP for putting the topic out there for discussion!

Thats funny you mentioned Good Morning America…

A few years back Fisher-Dave and I were Ice fishing on 18″s of Ice on Lake Calhoun during one of our winter warming spells…long story short they caught me coming off the DANGEROUS Lake and asked if they could interview me..I said sure.. so on the show they used about 20 seconds of a 15 minute interview of me trying to explain why we do it and how 18″s of ice even though its 45 degree’s out is safe.

Anyway they did a good job of making me a look a lot dumber then I actually am!

I knew when I awoke that morning and had 20 missed phone calls before 8am it wasn’t going to be good..

The 10:00 pm newscast must have used a shorter version. That report had to be less than 40 seconds and really didn’t say much at all.
