Please give a very warm welcome to Ido’s latest sponsor! Long time Ido member Trevor Johnson aka Trev from Otter Tail Lake.

Vacationland Resort is on Otter Tail Lake and quietly rests in wooded paradise just North of Battle Lake, MN.

But who could tell you more about the lake than Trev himself!

Hey all – just a short synopsis about myself, my venture, and my vision.

My name is Trevor Johnson, (aka Trev on IDO). I hail from the SE Minnesota town of Blooming Prairie, am a graduate of MSU Mankato, and have now set up camp in the small NW Minnesota town of Battle Lake. Surrounded by a thousand lakes, it seemingly has been the ‘ideal place’ to call home the last 13 years for myself, my wife of 10 years, Patty, our daughter Halie (7) and son Drew (5).

2010 brings a new and exciting opportunity, and I’m sure a few challenges, as Patty and I have purchased Vacationland Resort from my parents, who after a successful 15-year run as resort owners, can now hopefully reap the benefits of a joyful, deserved retirement. So this resort gig is not totally new to me, as over the years I have had the ‘privilege’ if you will, of owning many different job titles – grounds keeper, dock boy, cabin cleaner, fish cleaner, bar tender, fishing guide, entertainment director and my favorite, fish gut ‘burier’, just to name a few. And I can honestly say I didn’t mind performing any of these ‘musts’ that accompany managing a successful resort. This experience, my ‘real job’ knowledge as a Recreation Supervisor the last 13 years for a Parks & Recreation Department, plus my passion for the outdoors, all create a driven desire to ensure Vacationland Resort guests enjoy their stay. Our clean, quiet, family orientated, fishing resort sits on the shores of one of the best kept secrets in Minnesota – 14,000 acre Otter Tail Lake, the #2 walleye lake in Minnesota!

So why did I choose IDO as a stage for advertising……Honestly it just seemed like a ‘no-brainer’ – it’s a site with a lot of good people, the kind of people my family and I would like to have come and stay with us at Vacationland. I would also like to acquaint you with Otter Tail Lake, an amazing fishery known mainly for it’s excellent walleye population and jumbo perch. Even the most skilled, seasoned anglers are challenged on this structure-infested body of water, where jigging and live-bait rigging prevail, along with a mid-summer and fall evening crankbait bonanza is second-to-none! Due to it’s size, Otter Tail also provides the opportunity for boating, skiing, and swimming in it’s crystal-clear water.

In closing, I personally invite each of you to come and stay with us at Vacationland Resort, whether it be for a family vacation or a fishing trip with the guys. I can guarantee clean, modern accommodation at an affordable rate, and the opportunity to create lasting memories and friendships. Join our ever-growing family of ‘resort friends’ that keep coming back year after year from locations all over the Upper Midwest, to enjoy our facilities and Otter Tail Lake. Please visit our website, http://www.vacationlandresort.net, for more detailed information, and please call or email if you have any questions, or would like to come and stay with us at Vacationland this year.

    Trev

For those of you that decide to come and see us, I’m sure you’ll bump into my kids…. One thing I’m very grateful for is being able to enjoy time in the outdoors with my family, and especially time on the water. Here are pictures of Halie and Drew with their biggest Otter Tail walleye’s of ’09.

a 21″ for Halie, caught on a spinner/crawler in August.

a 22″ for Drew, caught on a jig/shiner in June.

Welcome to the team at Ido Trev! We’ll all be looking forward to your fishing reports from Vacationland Resort!

You won’t find a cleaner or more friendly place to stay. Trev knows this lake quite well…

Here’s a couple pics from a trip to Vacationland. Whether you like chasing the big girls or putting a nice meal on the table OT will come through….

Congrats Trev! This marketing venture should only increase your great customer base.

Welcome Vacationland!!! I fished Ottertail lake a lot during the summer months as a friend of mines parents have a lake home there. We caught a lot of nice walleyes and perch there!! Ottertail is a lot of fun besides the fishing. Hey Trev it has been a number of years since I’ve been there, but is Zorbas pizza still on the lake?? We used to water ski during the day, and head to Zorbas Pizza. After a nice sunburn, and a belly full of……..PIZZA we’d head out walleye fishing for the evening. Very fond memories, and glad to see you’ll be part of creating more for the IDO followers!! Best of luck in your venture!! For those who aren’t familiar with the Ottertail/Battle Lake area it is a great resort atmosphere with a couple nice golf courses close by also. There are also some nice supper clubs to hang your hat after great days on the lake.

Hey Chris – yep, Zorbaz is still there, busy as ever.

The Battle Lake/Ottertail/Perham area is great resort area (my biased opinion! )….not as well known as some of the other’s around the state, but that doesn’t deter from the quality. And you’re right, both of those courses are within 15 miles of Vacationland as well as many great supper clubs, bar/grills, shops, etc…..something for everyone.

    Thanks Trev!!

Again Best of luck!! I remember watching the DNR Spawn out some GIANT walleyes a number of years ago as the fish ran through the Ottertail River? They had a small make shift bridge across the river, and were pulling Football after Football out and stripping eggs. Very Memorable moment for a young walleye fisherman!!

The DNR still does that every spring – it’s actually on the Dead River on the W. side of Walker Lake, which is connected to OT…ever seen the # of boats on Walker on opener?

The DNR actually dumped about 25,000 in OT about 10 yrs ago. There’s a few starting to bend people’s rod’s now….
