I can’t say I thought much about the St. Cloud Gander a 5-6 years ago. It used to have poor selection and the knowledge of the workers was poor.

I’m not sure what happened but it’s not the same Gander anymore. The isles are loaded and the workers I did talk to were very knowledgeable. I can’t say enough about the store. I was very impressed! As BigG said don’t lump all the stores together because you can find quality or incompetent people anywhere you go.

The main reason that clothes are front and center is profit. The margins on clothes are at least twice as much as tackle and closer to three times as much as guns. These stores would never make it if they put the high profit goods in the back. I agree that I would like to get in and out but bottom line is bottom line. Every one of these stores has it’s good points and bad points. I visited the Maple Grove store over the weekend and can’t say anything bad about it. I also visited the Roger’s Cabelas and thought the selection and service were horrible. I like Fleet Farm and Scheels and the rest are just places to visit.

I know I get angry when I walk into any store and the Fly-Fishing stuff doesn’t clock me in the head upon entry…

Different strokes for different folks I guess…

They’ve lost me. They are way high on guns and ammo. I can get exactly what I want for fishing at Fleet, Cabela’s, Bass Pro Shop or Thorne Bros.
