I have a 2004 silverado and I think the day I bought it I put a cd in and it will not come out. It will play but when I hit eject it just makes a clicking sound. I forgot about it for about the last 5 years and was hoping maybe someone had a solution. The bad news is that if I do get it out I will be listening to Dora the explorer or what ever cd my 3 year old daughter is into.

    Thanks, BIll

A BFH should take care of that for you Does the trick every time

Make sure you hit it from the back of the deck tho

It was a common prob with GM CD units.Sounds like one of the eject drive went on it, if you were close to me I could remove it for you .

You can buy an installation kit for after market CD players for all those trucks.Usually run around $20 for install kit and the wire harness starts at around $19.99 or less and up to as high as $99.99 to retain all ONSTAR* functions.

They all will/should work with OEM wire harnesses and NO cutting of wires needed

So do you have any tips you could provide us with how to get the cd out? I have an interest in a 2006 Pontiac G6 that is having this exact problem; lots of clicking and the cd not coming out. The biggest problem is, this deck unit also has other information pertaining to the car built it into, like mileage, oil life, etc. How do you get around that if you’re putting a new deck in? Is there a way you can get another deck that will provide this info?

I’m surprised no one else has asked, “What’s on the CD”? Have you played it over and over?

To show my age, when I got out of college, one of my friends got a cassette tape stuck in his car stereo. That was back in the day when you put a cassette in, the cassette played and NOT the radio. You couldn’t decide which to listen to.

We heard the Eagles “Hotel California” in that car more than I care to say!!!

On getting the CD out I have removed the deck and powered it up on my bench and assit it out ,but I have done this many a times. Its not a job you can do without knowing how to do it.

As far as the info part of the radio it looks/sounds you may lose that feature with a after market cd player.

I would check with a car audio install center and check for sure. Maybe Best-Buy can help you out on that, they do installs.

Hope this this helps you out some.

Rock on Trumar, thanks! So if I understand this correctly, this is the dash mount to install the aftermarket stereo of your choice AND has the digital readout for the car’s info so you don’t lose that?

Ya, the more I think about it, that might be a good thing to do. Maybe they could give me some info on how to get the factory one outta there. I take a look at that and it makes my head hurt trying to figure it out. Thanks again–

you must have a soft head …

its gravy to get the radio/deck out, also any install shop can do it for you .I think if you buy a CD/radio at Best Buy they install for free or atleast they did at one time.

check it out and have your homework done as to what you need to before you have them install.ALOT cheaper to buy over the internet. Call them (installer.com)and make sure first as to what you need to meet your needs.

I have purchased from them before and very please with the results

    Ha!
I’ve done quite a few installs over the years, but I look at that G6 and even though I haven’t looked too hard, it just doesn’t look easy to get into. Once I can figure out where the release points are, I should have no problem. Maybe ambition is a problem too.

Here is something else to keep in mind also when removing a head unit of that year…

    Theft Deterrent
The Theftlock theft deterrent system is a feature on all base and uplevel radios. The theft deterrent system utilizes GMLAN serial data to determine if the radio is in the appropriate vehicle. Each time the radio receives the vehicle ID (VIN) packet message and is in the RUN power mode, it compares the VIN information it has stored to the received VIN packet message containing VIN information. The radio receives this message from a module on the GMLAN serial data circuit responsible for transmitting that information. If a mis-match occurs, the radio display will indicate to the user the radio is locked. Once this takes place, the radio will not respond to any button presses and become inoperative. The 2 scenarios able to cause this condition are:

A radio is installed from another vehicle.

A module which communicates on the GMLAN serial data circuit which supplies VIN information to the radio is replaced and not properly setup with the correct VIN information for that vehicle.
The only way to unlock the radio is by using a scan tool. The scan tool sends the appropriate diagnostic message (relearn VIN) to reset the radio. Using a scan tool, select the radio VIN relearn procedure from the module replacement screen in Vehicle Control Systems.
