Short notice trip I found out about today. Just booked flights to be there a day early so I have all day next Wed to fish. Other than websurf and take a chance does anyone have a proven suggestion? I would prefer to fish back country in the glades but would consider other area shallow stuff as far south as Islamorada. Just no deep sea. Thanks!

Maybe it’s just me, but this sounds like a con job.
But if it works out BK, can I go along as bait [censored]?

North American Fisherman TV show did an awesome episode last week with a guide out of this place: http://www.budnmarys.com/

They did a combo backwater trip in the morning until the tide changed and then went out to the big water and were catching sharks in the shallows on relatively light tackle. Looked like a blast. They were going out of Islamorada, FL. If you check with them ask them who the guide was for the TV show he was awesome and put Steve on some incredible fish. They were running cut bait as top water watching the sharks hit the bait! True hand to hand combat on spinning gear!

I have drank a couple of beers at BudnMary’s great place. We were cleaned up before we went to friends for dinner four-five winters ago. The bar sits above the boats when they are backing in after their charters.

Suzuki, the other thing about deep sea fishing in the Keys is you really are never any more than three to five miles out as the Atlantic trench runs real close to shore. If you got a little further south the Robinson Brothers do inshore stuff for snook, bones and permit. Robinson Brothers These guys are featured in Field and Stream, I have fished with Chris twice and had a ball both times inshore. I think they are a bit too far south, but check with Kathy. Another that I have not gone out with and he is in Miami, his webpage is cool is: Mark the Shark and again, I got to believe if you let him know you don’t want to go real far out they’ll can find plenty of sailfish close!!!

    Suzuki:

Maybe Capt. Jim will let you wrestle one of those crocs and if that don’t work the gators are easier to find!!!

Don’t overlook peacock bass opportunities, too, though I’m not a Bass guy, I think they’d be a riot. Kick myself for not looking into it more, but we didn’t have time to research much.

    Hi Suzuki –

I’m a Florida transplant here to MN from just a few years ago. As others have pointed out, lots of great opportunities for you to explore.

The two species I most enjoyed fishing when I lived in Fla were permit and bonefish. The fight is just incredible in those two. Islamorada is home to some world-class trophy bonefish. It’s a fun sight fishing opportunity, and they fight and run incredible.

If you can HQ yourself out of Hawk’s Cay. Lot’s of great charters and guides work out of there to suit whatever you wish to do.

Some of the guides mentioned above are HQ’d out of Hawk’s Cay as well.

Saltwater Experience Outfitters for guides and charter captain’s working out of Hawk’s Cay.

fyi this guy is a major jerk. Fortunately I found out without booking him. I highly recommend NOT using him.

Not sure never met him but he sure put the smack down on some fish on that show. I’m sure you’ll find another option as there are alot available by the looks of it. I will say I personally would take a jerk that puts me on fish over a nice guy who doesn’t but that’s just me. I’m paying him to put me on fish not be a friend. Its your money your spending so I do understand your position.

I have a guy booked that puts fish in the boat. And I have no interest in fishing with someone of low character, regardless of the fishing action.

I would think the sail cats would be bitting about this time of year?

I wouldn’t use them. They can thank Capt Jim Wilcox for that.

Was that a black drum or a sheepshead… I just remember sheepies down there looking like they were wearing old time convicts clothing.

At any rate, Suzuki do you have a recommendation for the Capt. you used???
