I caught her sunday morning on a jig and minnow. i guess i think she must of 50 inches or so just what we figured when we got a tape out at home though after she was released. she put up about a 20 min. fight on 8 lbs test. she stayed deep for most of the fight basically went where she wanted to go. i thought it was odd though she ended up swimming right up to the bank foot of water then back to about ten foot for a short fight then we finally got the net on her or i should say half of her. well thought id show the pics if anybody is more familiar with cats and can estimate her length and weight a little better id like to here what ya think.

Cool! Do catfish hit a jig and minnow often? The reason I ask is i quite often during the spring and winter catch big bullheads on a jig and minnow.
That would be tons of fun bringing that one up. Congrats!!

Nice looking Kitty. Go to the cat forum & watch BK’s post & video of Silt on Flatheads backs.Might give you a better idea of what these creatures might be doing during the winter months!

ive had two big cats during the winter landed in my boat both bit jigs w/minnoe neither were snagged. so in my experience they bite jigs and minnoes but i fish ALOT and i would say they do not often bite….. just my experience though

Whew! She’s a big girl for sure! Congrats AND you got to share that with your buddies. I’ll bet a whole quarter you’ll be talking about that chunk of Tuna for a while!

It’s really hard to tell the size from the angle of the fish. I think the photo is deceiving and it’s bigger than it looks in the photo.

I would guess it at an easy 45 and it wouldn’t surprise me if it was a 50.

Now you guys are getting me all excited!

Seems in the spring before the water gets above 55, on this site you’ll see a lot more guys using jig and minnows catching them. I would guess most people would attribute that to not many cat guy actually targeting them yet. But I think it might have more to do with the fact the migrating and moving a lot, snapping up any easy meal along the way. In the summer they are more hunters where when migrating I bet they are more opportunists.

Now that is a serious catfish. Just goes to prove, if you want to be lucky, you have to be on the water fishing. Nice save the walleye moment.

Couple years back while fishing the Saugerama with Moreye’s I hooked into about a 37-38″ cat and spent close to a half hour getting it up to the boat, was using light tackle, jig and minnow also.

Have to give Kirt credit, he didn’t toss me overboard for taking up his walleye time though..
