Thunderdome!
January 26, 2010 at 1:59 am #836322I have thought for years, a coin is fine for the start, but not to end 60 minutes of football. A 10 minute OT quarter. Whoever stalls with the ball at end of regulation, they receive the kick-off in OT. 1 time-out and as far as challenges, why do they bother ???? Yeah I watched through my purple shades, but according to alot of people around the country… there was at least 2 blown “challenges” that were looked at in the OT…. Water under the bridge, but going forward, if that shows well it works, get rid of it….

January 26, 2010 at 2:13 am #836328You can change all the rules you want if a STUPID coaching staff doesn’t know enough to make sure there are NOT 12 men on the field, all the changes in the world are not going to help.
January 26, 2010 at 2:25 am #836335Can you imagine what the NFL would be like with the college format of overtime?!? Can you say fantasy football bonanza??!?

January 26, 2010 at 2:40 am #836345Leave it the way it is. We are always changing stuff in the sports and some is for the good and some not so good. I am guessing if the Vikings won in OT yesterday we would not have this poll out right now!
January 26, 2010 at 2:57 am #836353I have felt the coin flip was bogus for years…. we won plenty by the coin too….

January 26, 2010 at 2:59 am #836354Regardless of how this game played out, I feel the same way about OT. Each team gets at least 1 possion. Though I really do like Blue’s idea of the Thunderdome!
January 26, 2010 at 3:20 am #836364I say leave as is, with many games and yesterday’s, there were so many chances throughout the game to put the other team away and you get your chance in OT to make some plays and well that didn’t happen either

Yes it is great to win in OT, but to be fair to everyone, adapt the college rule. Flip a coin, kiss my

January 26, 2010 at 11:36 am #836437Quit crying – its over.
OT has worked fine – especially if your the team that wins.
Get the job done in the first four quarters or suffer the fate of the coin toss, kick off and poor defense.

January 26, 2010 at 1:08 pm #836448Do away with the coin toss from the get go (it’s so boring). Let the visiting team make choice at start of regular play and OT.
About as exciting as the jump ball in BB.

I am sort of in agreement with Randy, keep it the same as it is to start OT but if the coin flip team scores on the first possesion they have to kick it off and the other team has a chance to either tie or win depending on if the first team kicks a field goal or touchdown. After both teams have one possesion then it goes to sudden death.
We can throw out as much as we want but the players and owners like and want it the way it stands now so it will never change.
January 26, 2010 at 10:31 pm #836733I pointed out the flaw in the one possession each already in the other thread. The second team is in 4 down territory for the entire possession making it unfair. Leave it the way it is. If you can’t win in the first 60, then you might as well be leaving it to chance.
January 27, 2010 at 12:38 am #836788Being we are on this subject. If a team that lost the coin toss, could they do an on-side kick?
January 27, 2010 at 12:43 am #836793How is that ??? The first team with the ball can go in 4 down too ??? It would be a decision….. do you kick the fieldgoal or go for the TD….. better to be a decision than a coin flip. The only advantage is the 2nd team, knows what they have to do to win or tie.

Yeah, I suppose the second team could just decided to punt and the game would be over. Now please don’t argue that a team might want to do that and try causing a fumble and pick it up and run it in.
January 27, 2010 at 4:19 pm #836978I can’t believe this is even being talked about.
Overtime is just that—-overtime!!!!!! It is a quick end to a game that is already done–not a situation to give both teams a chance on offense and another full quarter of regular football-might as well schedule a full 2nd game if you are going down that road–anybody say “mulligan, we need a do over!!!!!” Or, just have a tie rather than O.T.–that is fair, neither team wins nor loses.
The current O.T. is fair–coin flips are fair, if you get the ball, your defense has every opportunity to stop the opposing offense. If they don’t, you lose.Good golly, the vikings lost and the curse continues-get over it.
Skol Packers!!!!!
