just wondering if any of you out there have ever swithed from alum. to glass.I have an 18’pro V aluminum lund now and was looking into the deep V series of the skeeter, ranger, or perhaps the lund glass boats. Just wondering if it would be worth it. Fish some big water and some little water along with the river. I guess i have some concern with duribility as far as scrathes and puttting against shore or the worst of even hitting rock. At least with alum. you just dent it and go on to the shore .

    Welcome to In Depth!!

I started with alum (1) and since have had (3) glass. I will never go back. Personally I like the ride better. Don’t concern yourself with durability, unless you drive like you are in a demo derby or you stole it glass will hold up great. Just be sure to install a keel protector if you beach the boat alot.

Here should be your main concerns…………..

    1) what type of fishing / boating do I do?

    2) what can I afford?

    3) have I test driven the boat?

    4) is the motor sound and the right size for the boat?

Remember a boat is just a tool. It’s not a status symbol so don’t let your ego get in the way of what you can afford.

Get something you can truly afford and will let you enjoy your hobby!!

    Again, welcome to IDO!!

All the boats I have owned have been Alumacrafts. If I would ever switch, I would have to take a hard look at Skeeter.

There are a couple threads on here that go in depth and talk about the pro’s and con’s I went Glass and don’t regret it one bit, the only downside I experience is the I’m always careful as to where I beach the boat, not had a problem, but that’s my only negative issue I feel I have. I’d park my aluminum boat anywhere.
