No Lunds or Crestliners at the Boat Show?

Sounds like they won’t be and many of the boat dealers have formed their own group to create a parade of boats to try to help market themselves for more business instead of using the boat show and similar venues.
January 21, 2010 at 7:24 pm #834820Boat shows are VERY expensive. Dealers get kickbacks from the boat and motor manufacturers to offset the cost of the booths. Those $$ contributions have been dropping dramatically in recent years. Dealers have not been selling many of these boats at all at the shows, making it even harder to justify. I see the Boat Shows as we know them going away soon.
That being said, I like what Skeeter Boat Center does. They put the word out that they are doing “On the water demos” which was always the way to do it in my opinion. (No, I am not sponsored by them either.. )As far as Lund and Crestliner…has anyone seen the prices on their boats recently??? Holy Smokes! I know aluminum prices are up, but WOW!
mojogunterPosts: 3313January 21, 2010 at 7:33 pm #834830I know a dealer that is one of my best customers that sells both Lund and Crestliner were paying over 50K for floor space down there at the show, and I think that they were worried they would lose money this year so they and others came up with the parade of boats. I hope it works out for them.

Just got back from the show. No Lunds, Crestliners, Lake Assault, Warrior, etc… As an FYI, there were a few rangers, one legend bass boat, tracker, smokercraft, and G3. Save your money folks.
Gee, nice “BOAT” show. Sounds foolish. I cant believe they would even go through with such a mockery.

AL was going for about $.60/lb last year and is going for about $1/lb now. http://www.metalprices.com/FreeSite/metals/al/al.asp So a boat that contains 1000 lbs of AL should have gone up in price about $400. But seeing as labor, advertising, and Boat Show costs have decreased, then one would expect the overall boat prices to fall. Does that garage logic make sense, or am I missing something here?

Do you stir the pot on every thread?
HillbiehlePosts: 107January 21, 2010 at 9:07 pm #834876Justin, I just got done with a trade show at the convention center for the same size booth. Plus I had to add $110 for electric, $90 to rent a table, $45 for a chair in addition to the booth rental.

That’s the/my problem. My ’92 is more than adequate as well. However I would love to upgrade to a newer rig for some of the modern features. 16″ wider is a huge plus (really huge). Vinyl flooring, wash down kit, bow and stern livewells, all nice upgrades. However are those upgrades worth $30,000? That’s a tough one.January 21, 2010 at 9:53 pm #834886Quote:

I thought I was agreeing with you. Oh well.
January 22, 2010 at 1:28 am #834956It is simple. Cost vs benifit ratio. By the time a dealer moves all the boats in and out plus payiong employees and show cost they need to seel a tons of boats just to break even. Plus everyone wants a SHOW PRICE I someone wants a Lund or Crestliner it isn’t like you can’t go buy one at the dealership. The cost has gone up so high on many of the models I can buy a house for less.
January 22, 2010 at 1:54 am #834964I think we tend to forget that this is a boat show. Not a fishing boat show. The couple times I went in the past, I considered it a waste of my money. Lots of big high dollar wake makers. Very few fishing boats.

Sorry, it didn’t read that way. Reads like, since a few choice brands were not there that this individual was looking for we should just shut it down. Sarcasm does not flow over the web very well.
Kooty I agree to a point, probably a better show to find the runabout. Although I remember seeing a fair share.
January 22, 2010 at 2:57 pm #835091I haven’t went for 5 years now. So, I’m sure the show evolved some. The NW Sportshow is the place to view fishing boats. It will be interesting to see how much attendance is down this year.
mojogunterPosts: 3313January 22, 2010 at 5:35 pm #835153They set an attendance record, but the big question is were they spending money, or was it just a something to do outing? I hope people start spending soon.

Odd, the St Paul Ice show set a record in attendance this year.

I would think I’m typical of the population that have jobs. The only debt I’ve got is the house and student loans. All the toys are paid off.I want a new boat, I’ve got a great job with no foreseeable concern of job security for at least the next 5 years. However I still am wary of taking out a loan for the new boat I’ve been wanting for some time.

I sell metals for a living. Although $ per pound is one factor, conversion cost have sky rocketed! That is the cost of refining/smelting (Electricity for one..), rolling (Making it into sheets from a brick) and transport has risen exponentially!
We have given a a few price increases this year on aluminum..but if you want to see some price per pound hikes over the past year…look at copper!

I wish aluminum was only $1.oo a pound.
I bought about 1800 lbs of sheet and bar aluminum for $1.85 a pound this month.

Sorry, I was referring to manufacture/vendor/booth attendance.
