I can’t imagine the amount of money AT&T is paying to keep this deal. Their network is junk and continues to get worse. Wow.

After using the Droid for several months, there isn’t much I’ve found it can’t do. I’d like to see a pure IPSEC VPN client so I can remote into my servers at work, but other than that, it’s pretty darn cool.

I could get by without the QWERTY slideout keyboard to improve it’s weight. It’s only going to keep getting better with time and development.

So much for I-Phone being offered by Verizon or T-Mobile any time soon.

    AT&T locks up I-Phone until 2012…

    Droid Incredible it is…

Good, the more iArrogant keeps sooting itself in the foot the better. I had a feeling that there was no way that apple was going to go to Verizon. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when those to corporate egos butted heads in negotiations. Had the iBone come to Verizon, it would have stunted the Android markets growth.

So Pier, did you actually get an incredible in your hands to test it?

I don’t know what shocks me more about this. The fact that AT&T is shelling out that money, OR that Apple is willing to Keep taking the PR hit. If they would just break off that contract Both companies would end up being better off. AT&T’s network would free up a bit, as people jump ship, and well THe iPhone would be free on all networks, and you could use it the way it should be used, by not having every apple user bogging down the same network. Whatever That news has just made me go out and get a droid next week after I get back from opener.

Not yet in my Hands Pug, but I have decided to get the Incredible.

Thanks to you and the others for the advice on the Droid and Incredible-Droid!

Sounds like this AT&T/I-Phone news isn’t necessarily finalized yet..

I ended up with an HTC Incredible and this phone is awesome. It is going back though because the signal strength is horrible for making calls. When my old phone had 3 bars this phone only has 1 or none. I have had over 20 dropped calls. I would say that is about 40% of the calls I have made in the time I have had it. If you want a great phone and signal is not an issue then this is the phone. I will be going back to my BB until they get a droid that has a better signal. I hear Motorola has it’s Sholes Phone coming out in a Droid platform this year and Motorola has some of the best signals out there but I don’t want the current Droid monsters they have out.

That seems to be the consensus on the HTC made phones….poor signal strength. How they can create a phone that feature packed and not be able to maintain a decent signal is a major fail. Goes to show the direction they are heading with phones….more entertainment and less communication. Doesn’t make a lot of sense.

    That’s interesting guys.

With my research I came to the conclusion that it was for the most part just the signal indicator that was off and reception and quality was still good with the Incredible-Droid…And the other Droid phones were just fine.

Maybe Kooty who travels a lot and Pugg could chime in on there experience with this?

I believe Kooty and Pug both have Motorola Droids?

Dropping that many calls doesn’t sound good!

I’ve been all over the place since I bought the droid (MN, ND, WI, IA, etc.) and reception has been great. My cameraman has a BB and he regularly borrows my phone to place calls home. It has been a very rare spot where I’ve not had workable signal strength.

I’m with James on this one. All over SD, MN, NE, IA and western WI. Not an issue. Oh sure, you hit a dead spot here and there. But we are talking about some pretty remote areas too. And they are not extended.

I’ve got one spot on my back roads home, no matter what phone I’ve had, it will drop a call occasionally. Not everyday, but occasionally.

We are rolling out 5 Incredibles next week. I decided to let my lead tech try it out instead of me. I should have a better report in a few weeks. We are going to have them in SD and MN to start.

The key here is the phone manufacturer HTC, not the Android OS.

Naming the Motorola made Verizon phone the Droid was the dumbest thing ever done. All it has done has created mass confusion as can be seen in the past few posts; now there is a misconception that there is a signal issue with Android phones which isn’t true.

Droid and Android are two different things….one is a phone and one is an operating system….and neither are the issue here. HTC is.

I think everybody is aware that the HTC phones may or may not have signal issues depending on many variables.. Co-Worker here in the Metro has the HTC ANDROID and has no signal issues or dropped calls at all to report.

I’m guessing it’s part HTC, Area and who the original carrier is/was from my limited research on the topic..seems like the problem could be affecting former Alltel customers a bit more.

So much technology so little time…

I’m probably going to pass on the Incredible anyway after messing with it because the touch-keyboard doesn’t work for me at all.

Good to the know Moto-DRoid is rock solid so that’s what I’m leaning towards.

I agree on the Motorola. I have a freind that has never had one issue on his Moto droid. I have never had a service issue in the 12 plus years I have had Verizon. I can honestly say that it is a phone thing and not a carrier issue. I have had more dropped calls from this phone in 14 days then I had in 12 plus years.
They even sent me a new Incredible right away and the same issue. two phones, same problem. So now have both gone back to Verizon. Now I do live inbetween two towers and am close to the edge but I have never had any issues with previous phones, mostly Motorolas and Blackberrys.
I hope they get it resolved. I think it was the best phone I have picked up ever. No complaints about that, just the signal stregth.
New Motorola android phone coming out soon. I will wait and see what it is.

I NEVER use the full blown keyboard, so it’s the main reason I want the Incredible. That and I can get a 50% memory increase along with a faster processor. Why I need this…. I’ll figure it out sometime in the future.

    Thanks Pier!

I’ve had my Samsung Moment ( android Platform) for a little over a month now, an LOVE IT! Only complaint is battery life, but IT’s still a “new toy” so I’m abusing the battery. Also I have made some um let’s just say “modifications” to it. So it does a ton more that it ever could have out of the box. and being able to do that just makes you say iWhat? My wife the “Crackberry” addict cant have October roll around fast enough So she can Ride the shuttle over to the android world.

You rooted your phone? I am too afraid to do that, especially with insurance on the phone, but I would like the performance boost.

pug it was my 1st time even thinking of doing it. let me tell you it was EASY! Just make sure to follow the steps and ask people questions.

As for the insurance… well you can always set it back to factory if need be. and if you brick the thing well If you can’t turn it on neither can they so they really wont be able to do anything about it other than give you a new phone.

    What phone do you have?

I drug this up to say something else, but I see you asked a question and I never answered. I have a Droid…I suppose I should specify 1st generation, in-light of the next Droid coming out.

To root or not to root. I guess I over clocked my PC before and graphics cards without issue. I’ll have to investigate the boost I would get. At this point I am not sure I need it.

Now for what I was originally dragging up this post for is to give Android owners a heads up about Inventor. Google is coming out with a way to create apps without coding/programming knowledge. So you could create your own custom app, a fishing app for example, customized to your needs.

    Just throwing it out there.

If you spend 50% or more of your time using your phone responding to and writing exchange/outlook based emails then Blackberry hands down.

Any other usage and an Android phone will destroy everything about a Blackberry.

The Moto Droid X is the ticket — it’s due out before the end of July on Verizon.

I use my Droid to connect to my works exchange server, but it is slow and eventually stop synching real time. Same goes for my hotmail account. Yet Gmail, not surprising, has no issues. But all are pop mail accounts I believe, so I don’t know why the issues with the others. I wish froyo had a fix coming.

My work doesn’t allow activesynch to Android yet because remote kill isn’t out until Froyo/2.2.

So.. being the crafty sucker I am, I found an App called “Touchdown for Android 2.0/2.1” which (if you can believe it) authenticates to, screen scrapes, and data matches to the phone’s local copy. Then posts back any actions.

It’s slow as all get-out on synch but better than using Dolphin Browser to login to OWA manually.

New member here, not so new to the site thou, and actually it’s this forum that motivated me to sign up, and share my excitement. I’ve been debating on a new phone operating system my self, and what is has come down to for me is the Android market. The Android market had a download for the Navionic lake mapping system!!! you can actually get the Hot Maps Premium right on your phone!!!!! turning you phone into a fish finding machine. you can set way points and routes just like you would on your fish finder!! in my book that’s end of story. the Navionics web site has more information and your android OS phone must run 1.6 or better in order to work. Navionics has “certified” some phones which are then guaranteed to work with the program, with others being added on a regular basis. this is the coolest program i have ever run across on a phone for outdoors men and woman. http://www.navionics.com/MobileMarineFeatures.asp?MobileType=Android

To be fair, the iPhone had the app first, but then again, the iPhone isn’t a part of this topic.

That being said, I remember seeing the app at the Sportsman show and ever since I got my Droid I was hoping they would port it over. They never gave any clues that they were developing it and then one day I saw a post about it.

Boy am I glad I got it. I still have yet to use it on a lake, but it has at least giving me more to look at for my shore spots on the river.

I used to have a Blackberry Storm until my screen cracked a few weeks ago. I made the switch to an HTC Eris and the Droid platform. No comparison. There’s a few things I liked better on the BB, but overall, no comparison. The Incredible or the one they’re releasing today would be sweet.
