My wife and I are looking at renting a cabin this summer for a family vacation with my 3 year old boy and 7 year old girl. She is very clear that this will not be a fishing vacation, but it is very important to me that we are on a good fishing lake! I am looking at a resort called Idlewild on Kabatogama lake in Voyager National Forest. Just wondering if anyone has any info on the lake or the resort. Also any recomendations on family friendly resorts with good fishing in MN or WI would also be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Hello Cammpin,

My younger brother takes his family to that resort everyother year. He loves the place. He doesn’t fish much but loves the area and the lake. Sorry I couldn’t be more help.

Kabatogama is basically a fishing lake / area only. Sure there is some other stuff to do but pretty limited for the kids.

We all know a happy wife leads to a happy life. I would re-think Kabatogama.

That said, if you need more info give a holler.

Ryan, I stayed at Idlewild a few years back. Gracious owners, heated swimming pool, far from any town. Fishing was best at night, but I was there in July. We did take the kids into town and went to the bear refuge. That was pretty amazing. We also went went up to I’Falls and did a free tour of the paper mill. My kids really enjoyed it all. I did take them skiing and tubing also. This is a nice low key destination. Have fun! Doug
