There’s a number of us that need to renew our MN carry permits before August of this year.

I emailed the fella that gave us the original class and he’s too high because to travels time ect.

I’m just starting to look around.

If you know of an instructor, preferably on the East or SE side to St Paul, please shoot me an email.

If your in need of a renewal class, send a note for that too.

    The more the cheaper!!

I would like to have the class held in early April to avoid the busy summer.

Should have gone with the Utah permit. Renewal is a new passport photo, $10, and a stamp.

I tried to inform him of just that, then I changed my mind. Fortunately he missed with all 5 shots!

the instructor i had, does it out of your home, you just need a minimum of 5 to sign up. $50 per person, probably less for the renewal.

i’ll post up his info tonight when i get home.

    Hey Brian
I just got a quote from Smart Secruity for a group i am putting together. He cut the price a little when I walked in the store. He is in the little strip mall by Coborns…down by Sears.

What is the requirment for the class in reference to how early can you take the class and have it still be counted towards the permit. Reason I am asking is my permit is up in Feb 2011. If I take it now would it still be good for the permit or should I wait till closer to that time?
If someone happens to know great otherwise I will call the security place.

    Mr. Chappy’s Brother,

The course cert is good for 1 yr. The Sheriff’s Office would like it in at least 2 weeks prior to your cards expiration date.

Looks like we have 7 for class at this point.

We’re shooting for a Sunday in Feb. to be held at the Bluff’s Bar and Grill in Hager City with qualifying to be held close by.

    Cost: $50.

If there’s anyone else that would like to get in on this, please email me @

Just curious, isn’t that in Wisc?
If so, I don’t think you can carry over there…??

What Tuck said…and we can carry in WI without a permit. The handgun must be carried openly. Craziest thing I’ve ever heard of.

You can get a Minnesota CC permit even if you are a Wisconsin resident. So, if you spend a lot of time on this side of the river, you can get licensed. As long as you do not have a crimial or mental record, pass the NRA certified course, the sheriff MUST issue you the permit.

I wasn’t so much questioning whether who could get a CC, actually I think just a permit to carry as you don’t have to conceal it, but whether I was getting into trouble coming from MN to Wisc with a handgun, even with a permit.

Appears if I carry openly I’m ok???

That’s the law…but I’m not going be the guy that has a doz 911 call place because I have a side arm.

Just make sure your weapon is unloaded in your car when driving. The open carry law does not apply in a vehicle.

This is an interesting discussion. I have always refrained from carrying while fishing the river due to the possibility of fishing in Wisconsin. If I am understanding this correctly, it would be legal for me as a Minnesota resident to also carry in Wisconsin so long as the firearm is completely in the open. Minnesota permit holders have no restriction on open carry and I don’t think many people would get worked up seeing a fisherman in a boat carrying. Does the Wisconsin restriction in a vehicle also carry over to watercraft? If it does, that would put an end to that plan.

Anybody have a dept in Wisc you could contact for a “official” reply?

Thanks, wasn’t clear enough, I need a email or web site addy, I find a written copy works much better than “I talked to ????? and they said”

Something I can throw in my glovebox and hopefully never use.

Hopefully I’d get a reply and be able to post it here for others also.

    Al

ps..just found the Wisc district attorney’s email addy, we’ll start with her.

Trying to find out how to keep my handgun and be legal when I go to Wisc…

OK, tried the State’s District Ayttorney, she replied in about a hour or so by email that there was a open carry law, but to contact the county DA to find out about coming in from Minn, I emailed him and as of now, no response.

I may have to contact the sheriff but I’d still like to have something in writing, or at least from a higher up.

Anybody get by the Pierce county courthouse and if you have a few minutes can you see if the DA will help?

    Or any suggestions?
I think there are several who would be interested in a anwser.

Allen, here’s a pdf that talks about vehical transport in WI and lists the law that pertains to this.

Google the statute number and you should find your answer. I don’t have time to follow this all the way through for you.

    Sorry.
