I don’t think I’ve ever seen a resport commercial or fishing footage on Lake Winnipeg which is relatively close to MN and a huge body of water. What’s the scoop- is this a dead sea or just too big and rough to fish?

    Just curious.

Canada is not like the US when it comes to lodges for sportsmen, especially Lake Winipeg. Summer fishing is good, but the 9th largest body of fresh water could get pretty rough. The lower basin is 12 ft close to shore and 22-25 ft in the middle with underwater sand reefs all over the place.

Now winter fishing is awesome. We went last weekend and I tried hard water fishing for the first time on the east side of the lake where my cottage is. We we in about 9ft of water and used live minnows. Had only 2 over 23″ and a whack of pound and a halfers. We aere all real hapt since we were on for the first time. There is a casino hotel and another one on that side as well. The west side has the twn of Gimli that has a real nice hotel conference centre. Not many americans up here since LOTW is three hours closer from the cities and totally caters to sportsmen.
