I got on through my son Herb.
Said Mom you need to go on this and then you can keep up with what is happening. That was about 3 or 4 years ago during ice fishing.
I have enjoyed it ever since. Took me awhile before I could get the nerve to post.
    And Thank you Herb

I am the king of google searches. I’ve found more awesome outdoors sites that interest me by doing searches every so often. Pretty much every site I’m truly interested in I’ve found this way.

I believe that it was MikeW that got me hooked! I ran into him at one of our wholesalers and he told me to check it out. Now I can never get off of it! Thanks Mike!

Wow, I can’t believe I missed this thread the first time! I found it on a Google search I believe, after tiring of the bickering, whining, and post chopping of the “big” walleye site of the time. I was hooked in no time!

I had actually seen the site in a magazine. It was in one of the articles to check out Everts Resort and this site. I also did a search for Pool 4 on walleye and this site kept poping up. So here I am.

My buddy Turk told me about this site in May of 2001??!!
Can’t beleive it’s been that long! I was new to the area and was looking for fishing info….
Now I have a Crestliner boat and more BFT tackle than I can shake a stick at! Oh yeah, lots of St Croix rods also.
My buddy Big Al designed the first FTR logo and I manufactured the first red and black decalomania (not stickers!)
Been great. Looking forward tot he next 4-5 years.

Fall of 2002, I was bored at work and did a search on fishing, found FTR and lurked ALOT. It basically got me throught 2003. I guess the rest is history so to speak.

I gotta agree with Son of Putz, I’ve been trying to get my son addicted, but he’s just too dang busy.

I “found” IDA about halfway between Zumbrota and Red Wing on HWY 58 around 5:30 AM on the way to the river. I was running names through my head and that one stuck.

    The rest is history.

I ‘found’ the logo for “IDA” sitting on a bucket jigging for Walleye through the ice at the Dresbach dam.

It’s nice to know I’ve left a lasting impression here.

TUCK told me about FTR a few years ago. I get in trouble weekly at work. but my boss still asks how the fishing or hunting is, as long as he keeps asking I must not be in to much trouble

I found out, because all my fishing regulars, would talk about it around the campfire. This was when it was FTL and FTR. They are all staff. Dman, Bobber, Hooks and Tuck. Oh yeah, and when they’re not talking about it, they’re rigs are all plastered with stickers !!!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Fishy has his. Thankfully I get notes from members on a weekly basis that read like this…

(Author’s Name Withheld) Just wanted to drop you a note and tell you what a great site you have put together here. I fish all over, and frequent various fishing boards…none come close to IDA. From the way it is set up, ie. navigation, graphics. To the quality of guys and gals who populate it. And also the freedom members have to express opinions (within reason) Time and time again I have seen you and the other moderators let users work differences through without resorting to censorship. All this for free? I’ll bet some of these people don’t realize how good they have it. Again kudos to you and your staff…

The one thing that does concern me fishy is that you don’t seem happy to be here in many of your posts due to the negative tone in some of them. If you’re not happy here, why are you here? IF there’s anything I can do to improve your experience here please let me know. You’d be surprised at the lengths I’ll go to improve this site for our membership.

As in the first time I posted this, there was a decal stuck to the wall at the Windmill Marina in Afton. Thought I would check it out….and…since then…nothing in my life, my families life and the Bass Fishermans life have been the same.

The membership has grown at an amazing rate in the relativly short time I’ve been here. IMO the quality of the site has grown too. Finding your way around, friendly people willing to help out newbies and oldbies with questions ect.

    So…this is a long thread…and we still don’t have everyone responding…

How did you hear about In-DepthAngling?

I hate to admit it but it’s been so long I don’t remember. I think there was a newspaper article that quoted James and mentioned FTR but it could have been a TV show or maybe a magazine. I have been hanging around here for a long time now (I read alot more than I write) and I still enjoy this site. It is pretty much the only reason I get on the computer besides a little e-mail and getting weather info.

That’s easy Brian. Do you think my kids would miss a chance to remind me I am a year older? It still puts a smile on my face thinking about the last one though!
