Other……I ran across this site when it was the message board on James Moving Waters Guide site about 4 years ago while just looking for fishing info on lake Pepin . Since then it has made a lot of progress turning in to a huge source for fishing info from all over the midwest, and then some.

What, you weren’t trolling on the Dragon boats???J/J
I’ve offered to take you on the river and break you of that silly bass fishing affinity you seem to have but you can’t get over your fear of being thrown overboard. Something about me behind the wheel on the mighty Mississippi puts the fear of God in your heart. LOL
I can’t deny it though, I am definitely an ” OTHER“.

I have been ice fishing this year five times so far. The springs and fish trap at ferry landing have been ok, but I feel there is better out there and I’m determined to find it. What has been working best is a slow presentation for bluegill and live minnows on purple and black ice jigs for crappies which I myself have had no luck but another gent who sold his cabin at puckaway in Wis. and purchased at blandings is definately the crappie slayer(maybe thats why he painted this on the side of his boat) purple rembrants may work, if you’re willing to do the work. hehe I’m not. Pink power balls seem to produce more than chartruse and waxies on small chartruse/green jigs again slow presentation 4″-8″ of the bottom has been there strike zone for me thus far. Going Sat. to potter’s marsh again, this time I won’t sit in one spot if I’m not catching fish ( I got skunked )see you on the ice

I see this was your second post. How did you hear about this website? Also, you have to get skunked once in awhile, just to apreciate running into a mess of them. (I’m still looking for a mess of them )
    Talk with you soon!

I don’t remember how I found the site … except that I was doing an extensive search for a place to see what a walleye looked like ….. followed by a good week at Everts and fishing with Dustin. Now I’m hooked and check the site almost daily.

    Hey yoda840!
Would it be safe to say, you found this site using a search engine of some kind?

    What area are you from?

Sounds like you enjoyed your stay at Everetts. I’m working on my wife to skip our yearly trip up to Winni and spend half of that week on the Red River and the other half at Everetts…I’m not sure Steve could put up with me for the whole week!

    Other:

I was attending a fishing seminar at Fleet Farm in Hudson, the Thur. before the river opened (it was early opening that year) for walleye. During the Q&A session this guy mentioned that St. Croix and Mississippi River info could be found at “FTR” so I checked it out. There wasn’t a lot there at that time (compared to now especially) so I blew it off until the next winter. Returned and tried the message board………….it worked! The rest is just part of a bigger story, history, and personal addiction!

I say the site on the side of H2O’s black suburban. We came off Mille Lacs at about 2 AM and James came over to show us some pictures of monster fall walleyes (My dad and I got skunked that night). I figured this guy knew what he was talking about and I went straight to the site when I got home.

I was doing creel surveys at Colville park on pool 4 one day and I was interviewing this angler. He was very tight lipped about the fishing. He didn’t want to tell the creel clerk any good info. We got to talking and I recommended he check out a certain fishing website and he said……”I know of a better one you may want to check out…” This guy turned out to be Mr. Holst. So basically, I got the site directly from the horses as…mouth. .

    Hi Brian,

Yes, I guess I found the site by a website, or maybe through a link that I discovered via a website …. but I looked a lot of places so I don’t remember exactly.

I live in western north carolina … only a few lakes in the area have walleye, for years I pond fished …. mostly the same pond & 1+ bluegill, 2+ pound bass are common and easy once you learn the pond …. but, my fishing partner of 30 years died inlast spring …. now, the only couple times I have been back to the pond, I just sit there and look over the water … don’t even get a rod out of the car…. but, at the same time, renews my desire to fish … with a change in order.

if your wife fishes, keep pushing everts …. if you’re wife don’t fish, keep pushing everts ….. either way, you will be immediately made welcome … old friends you’ve just met. …. my trip was most refreshing … very nice to meet people who are sincere … leave keys in the truck, don’t lock the door …. I guess my work makes me a skeptic … (my work car has a big engine, lights hidden behimd the grill and in the corner lights … a loud noise machine and sometimes I have to deal with those who will never be welcome at Everts….. steve and his many friends will “put up” with anyone who is honorable and honest … they even accepted and welcomed a southern boy!

cattin …. in my profession nothing scares you as long as you can see it! …. but, my greatest fear may be now realized … walleye are the first obsession that grabbed me like this!

Regards to all … I hope we can meet in the future

I found mine while driving to the ramp at sunrise and Bill Cadwell kindly yelled over to me that the fish wern’t biting and he was going home and getting on his favorite outdoors website in-depthangling .com ….. I found out the fish weren’t biting too and took his advice!……….. I think i found it by checking out the wisc forum on tourism and through the links that go from one to another,,,,, i think it was that way two years ago, i think.

Hey yoda, welcome to the site. You wouldn’t believe how hot the fishing gets on the upper mississippi in the spring months. Its very very good. Youd have to fish it to believe it. Then theres the unbelievable months of summer, then fall, then winter, you get the idea.

I found this site poking around with Google in 2001. Also found a few others…and speaking of which…there was a post asking for some Pool 4 info on one of those others quite about that time. Since the site did not allow unauthorized links I replied telling the guy to e-mail me because I knew of a GREAT source for Pool4 info. Well, the guy e-mailed me and yep, it was none other than our own Mr. Holst…so I replied and told him to go talk to himself
