11 buddies and I are headed up to URL for our annual ice fishing trip. I am in charge of Thursday nights meal. I have done chili, burgers, pasta, yada yada yada. Anyone have a good idea that is quick and easy? I don’t want frozen pizza or ramen, but something good, filling and easy. Thanks dudes.

Pans of Lasagna or pans of egg bake… both can be prepared ahead and just need to be heated Plus, they stick to your ribs Good luck on Upper Red

December 31, 2009 at 12:03 am #828115A big pot roast either beef or pork seasoned up real good, sear on all sides in a cast iron skillet and some oil. Put in a huge crock pot or elect. roaster, couple cans beef broth mixed with a couple cans golden mushroom soup, then stuff peeled carrots, baby red potatoes, coarse sliced onions, celery, and whole mushrooms all around the roast. Pour sour mixture over the roast and veggies. Set temp on low and go fish’n all day. When you come back, check to see that everything is cooked, and the roast is falling apart. Drain juices into a pan, take some cool water or milk and add a couple heaping table spoons of corn starch and wisk real well add to pan of drippings and heat till boiling, stir till thickened, take off heat and ring the dinner bell! Get some hard rolls from the bakery and serve some butter and jam along side.

December 31, 2009 at 1:15 am #828141Crock pot is the way to go!! We do one night with beef roast, potatos, onions, carrots, and another night with a pork roast and sourkraut. Put it all together in the morning, let it cook for 8+ hours and you have a warm meal at the end of the day.
jldiiPosts: 2294December 31, 2009 at 1:16 am #828142Spaghetti and garlic bread.
Make your sauce ahead of time and all you have to do is heat it up and boil the noodles. The bread you wrap in foil ahead of time also and then set it top of the furnace an hour or so before you want to eat. Simple.
corey-studerPosts: 423December 31, 2009 at 2:57 am #828171If you like ribs, Lloyd’s BBQ ribs vaccuum sealed from Target 12.99 FULL rack and are microwavable or Tony Roma ribs from Wal-Mart $9.99 15-20 minutes in oven and you can do mashed taters in bucket, also microwavable. Somewhat quick easy and not much mess. All the above sounds good too and have done them all. Just another idea…
December 31, 2009 at 3:25 am #828177Several of my favorites have already been mentioned, but french dips are good too. Beef broth, garlic, onion, some seasoning, a few pounds of roast beef and french bread.

This is exactly what I thought of when I saw this thread, couldn’t be easier, and you can add different meats and amounts of them. Plus it’s kind toss everything in a pot and it turns out, I think I’ll add it to my ice fishing cooking list, cause I think it’s a darn good idea.

Shame on you. I’m going to be starving all day after reading that and I’m not even fishing. Wish I was.
December 31, 2009 at 4:32 pm #828294Is this a sit down meal or buffet style, if Buffet brats/hot dogs and sauerkraut is quick and easy also can be kept warm for continued munching, Chile works well for that too.
Sit down a roast sounds good, maybe ham, hot dish of some sort works well, sloppy joe’s/BBQ beef, the list goes on.
Be careful with seasoning, we had a guy make chili once that was so hot, nobody in our party of 8 could eat it other than him.

December 31, 2009 at 5:43 pm #828314Awesome ideas! It is like a buffet I guess. Put a bunch of food out and tear it up. I like a lot of these ideas I now just have to decide. Thanks guys!
eisertPosts: 76jldiiPosts: 2294December 31, 2009 at 7:48 pm #547191I’d stay away from the Heggies pizza idea if people are going to be drinking. Things tend to get a little explosive in the bathroom if you follow my drift. Not a good thing with a bunch of guys in a fish house together.
buck-slayerPosts: 1499December 31, 2009 at 9:01 pm #545518Crock pot full of taco meat then bring soft and hard shells and all the fixens.
January 1, 2010 at 1:52 am #828449Ha! Yeah pizza and booze are definatley a lethal combination but these guys could eat a bowl of cereal and it would be bad. Luckly we are staying in some cabins that have a few bathrooms. That brings me some comfort. Again great ideas, thank you.
