Quick question about baitcasting reels

I got a Daiwa Exceler 100H baitcasting reel for Christmas- it’s a teardrop shaped bass reel. I bought a 6’6″ MH graphite Ugly Stik to go with it. Since I never used a baitcasting reel before, I did my research and figured out all the tips and tricks on how to used it, and even practiced in the snow. It casts great from what I can tell

Now for my question… Is the line guide supposed to travel side to side when I cast? Of course it travels side to side when retrieving, but not when I cast it.

No, not all baitcasters will function like that.

Thanks for the reply. From what I gathered, the big round baitcasters are the ones that have a line guide that travels when casting, and the smaller teardrop shaped reels don’t travel when casting. Is that the general rule? I just can’t think of a way to figure out if the Daiwa Exceler 100H is supposed to function that way- unless I can find someone else who owns one.

That is the way mine are, I own a couple different “low profile” baitcasters and the guide does not move when casting. On my level winds they do.
