Ok, I’m planning a big Valentines Day vacation for the wife and I. We’re going to go to Daytona, FL for the Daytona 500. I got great tickets to the race and now I need to book a flight, hotel, and car package. I’ve been looking on various travel sites and the hotel deals confuse me. Why would a Super 8 be more expensive than some of the resorts on the beach??

Who has taken a similar trip and what advise can anyone offer on booking something like this online? What travel site does everyone use???

The Super 8 is right next to the track, the closer the more $$$$$ I would talk to a good travel agent or look up the hotels and book to them direct and look for air fare deals.

Another question…. In the online travel packages that include a rental car what is the typical mileage allowance?? I have some family down there that we might want to go see an hour from Daytona. Also some of the packages out of Orlando are an hour from the track but a little cheaper for a much nicer place.

High demand for a place to stay = inflated prices… Went by Sturgis, S.D. during bike week. $400.00 per person in a room, any room.. After bike week $50.00 for 4 to stay go figure.

I would start checking asap, those kinda rooms are booked along time in advace. There are alot of condos along the beach, my wife and i stayed in a condo in Ormond Beach two years ago, not a bad drive.

Are you flying in to Orlando or Daytona? If Orlando you can always take the DOT shuttle to Daytona and then get a car there. Shuttle service is cheap and easy to do. You also get to sit back and enjoy the scenery.

Go stay on the beach with a beach view room. I would bet you dont get to see the ocean to much in Nebraska. I stayed at the Hilton last spring. I think North Daytona may have cheaper hotels. It is amazing how a $25 dollar a night room will go to $200 on a busy weekend.

Driving to the Daytona 500 may be over rated. You may be better off just taking a cab or hotel shuttle.

Fishing-guy.com is who you want to go in shore fishing with for huge red fish. Book early with Fred and let him know who sent you his way.

Critter Gitter fleet or Waterproof charters is who to take for off shore fishing for snapper and grouper.

    Have a good trip.

    Ben,

If you can, I would fly into Sanford. It’s about a 30 minute drive to Daytona. I’ve flown into Sanford for a tiny fraction of Orlando.

Ben, Our corporate travel people have a mandate that we use Priceline for Hotels and we are to bid $60/night for a 3.5 star hotel. You will almost always get a Sheraton, Hilton or Marriot. Don’t know about the Daytona timeframe as far as rates though…Should be fun though!!

You might be a Redneck if you think the think the last four words of the National Anthem are:

    “Gentlemen, Start Your Engines”
