Anyone have any positive experiences with getting their heat ducts cleaned in the home? I’m buying a house end of the month, and doing some serious cleaning before moving in.

Any recommendations? Who did you have do it?

    Thanks!

I work for Centerpointenergy/Minneagco and we do it, we also have Websters do it for us when needed.fwiw

Have you looked to see if you really need it?

Dust in a ductwork system can effect airflow, but how much I’m not sure.

Well, I haven’t looked, but it’s a 1975 home, don’t know if it’s been cleaned before, and the current owner has two dogs… Just want to clean it to make sure.

Talking to HVAC friends, Sedgwick has been doing it a long time and do a good job. There are a few companies out there that are in and out in 1/2 hour, etc. so ask some questions when contacting companies. A good job should take a couple of hours depending on number of duct runs and length of time since cleaning was done prior. I’d also ask about coupon specials, etc. as I get them in the mail once in a while.

Right or wrong, at least it’s input from guys that work in the industry.

Probably a good idea then, we’ve had dogs and they do put a load on the filtering system of a furnace, our cold air returns had a pretty good coating of hair after 10-12 years.

Some cleaners were famous for finding other problems with a heating system and recommending high priced cures, as others have said, be careful

We have lived in our farm house for over 14 years. We just had the ductwork cleaned last month, before installing a new Trane XV95 furnace. He also sprayed a sanitizer. The whole house smells cleaner.
It also helped my sons allergies. They took a bunch of those asian beatles out of the ducts. The team was very professional and it took most of the morning to complete.

Thanks for all the leads on this,

Sampson Marine, who did your ducts?

I had COIT do my current house a few years back, it helped, but I wasn’t overly impressed with their methods. Could have been better.
