(Also posted on the hunting side… Thought I’d share it here as well)…

Finally not going to go deerless this year. (Whew!!)

Hit the woods during the doe season yesterday thinking my chances were pretty good. Huge Snowstorm on Tue/Wed, then clear, sun, COLD on Thursday. Perfect conditions to put those deer on thier feet in search of food. And the place I hunt has TONS of food. The Landowner planted lots of food plots…

In only 24 hours since the snow stopped, that corn field was completely blanketed with tracks. Whatever deer were left in the area must have be in and out of there all night/day.

I got up in the stand about 3:30 and immediately saw 6 bucks. They cleared off, then I saw 4 does. Shot the biggest doe. Actually it was a bad shot in the sense that I was way off my aimpoint (gun is very accurate, but apparently I’m not ), but on the other hand, she dropped in her tracks from a spine hit, so I finished her off with another shot and called it good.

2 degrees above while hunting, 1-2 feet of snow to drag her out in. Photo doesn’t do her justice, but she was a BIG doe.

Check out the video!!! (Kill is at 9 min 10 seconds on the video timeline… Bucks and doe video prior to that time)

7mm Rem Mag… 140gr Winchester Supreme ballistic silvertips.

My aim was off (didn’t intend to spine her, and the shot was further back than intended), but it did the trick.

Need more shooting practice in zero degree weather apparently.

Nice round, shooting a 7 bee mag here, love it. Amazing what a hand loaded 120 gr nosler BT at 3700 will do to a white tail! Again, great vid, got my blood flowing as I did not hunt this year.

Thanks for the video. I would say from the pics you don’t have to hunt with a shotgun like in my area. I’m jealous.

    Nice!

What are you using to shoot and then edit your video? The quality of the footage (esp from 200 yards!) is very very good!

Thanks, although it wasn’t anything special… Just a Sony DVD handicam and the software that came with the camera… I don’t video much, but I figured if I was hunting last night it might be fun to take the camera and see what happens. It was at max zoom when I shot her.

Jason – I have some fun videos (at least fun to me… others might think they stink) of us salmon fishing from a few summers ago on Michigan. They should be linked on that same youtube page if you want to check ’em out.

I always wish I would have filmed more in hindsight… We have had some AWESOME days on Mille Lacs and Michigan that would be fun to revisit. Definately more videoing on the checklist for this upcoming year.

Oh…I can feel the sting of the cold fingers after gutting a deer out in only a couple degrees. How far did you have to drag it? Back in the old days, we hunted some swamps near Prentice. Had to drag a couple of miles a few times

Luckily the Rhino was able to get through the snow for the most part, although I had a couple of tractors in reserve if needed (didn’t need ’em)… Only dragged it a few feet, by hand anyway.
