Cordless Electric Grass trimmer?

Ok, I’m trying to stump the IDO crew here…. Has anyone used an electric trimmer before? I need to order one for my father inlaw. He’s going to use it for light grass trimming, not weeds or brush. I’m sure gas would be the way to go but he’s not interested in having anything with a gas engine.

Has anyone used the WORX GT?(the one from TV) I read some reviews on it and they seem to be really mixed from; “best thing ever” to “the biggest pile of junk ever”.

Any other brands that are better? Thanks!

I have a cordless trimmer I purchased from Menards. What a nightmare trying to get parts for it. Menards doesn’t stock parts for them. They weren’t any help in trying to find them either. I even went to our dealer in town to try and find parts to no avail. Finaly I went online to find them, that wasn’t an easy task either. Seems they are made under several different names.
My recommendation would be to go to a reputable dealer and purchase one from them and ask if they carry parts for them.

Joe,like most tools the battereies and blades are the main concerns. Have they made a unit with lithium batteries yet? That would be great. Otherwise my mother likes her B and D,shes had for three years now.Cheap fix for light work.

I’ve had the Sears 24V for 3-4 years now. No problems and can get parts. Not going to plow thru any long grass, but as a trimmer just fine. Lithium would be nice (lighter) if available.

Black and decker for me too, burned out one battery and they shipped me one for free just had to return the other unit. Pretty nice since it was probably my fault!

I have a Ryobi 12 volt 10 inch electric trimmer. It worked great until we moved to a 3/4 acre yard. It does not last long enough for the bigger yard so I went to a gas trimmer.

Thanks Guys! I don’t know if there’s anything that can’t be answered here on IDO.

I ordered the Black and Decker Grass Hog. The reviews look great compared to the other brands. I’m sure he’ll love it. Thanks

Maybe I’m too late. Must of been a slow night on TV or I was too lazy to turn the channel, but I got sucked into the Worx trimmer infomercial.

I think I’ve had it for 3-4 years and have not had a problem. I did have to order a new spool for it this past summer.

It works just fine for light duty, and will struggle in thicker weeds. I just use it in an average city lot for grass. Never a problem with the battery, I just drop it in the charger when I’m done.

Oh, and the edger thing I never use. I use the pressure washer for that.

PS: I do my trimming before I mow, that way I mulch up the trimmings too.
