I have had both DirectTV and Dish and would recommend Dish. DirectTV cut prices but did not offer it to us until AFTER we left. Easier format to follow and very good program choices.
December 9, 2009 at 2:56 pm #821880I agree that Dish is the way to go. Great customer service, a good value and easy to use features. I wouldn’t go back to Comcast again.

I have 4 tv’s hooked up (2 recievers, each with 1 HD and 1 SD link, plus ability to “cheat” and run a 5th or 6th tv off of the same output if you don’t mind watching the same channel… works great for football games..)
anyway, all HD programming, many, many channels, 6 or so cinemax channels. about $80/mo. Not super cheap, but i think i get a lot for what i pay compared to others…. haven’t had too many poor service issues (yet) which is a bonus.
December 9, 2009 at 3:55 pm #821903Directv is going to launch another satellite before Christmas.. that will put Directv so far ahead of everyone else in HD.. Dish cannot launch another satellite for two to three years.. and they are in trouble. they are losing customers, or not gaining anywhere near like Directv is .
in the past 7 years Directv has gained 50% of accounts from what they had..

Are you guys getting your internet through Dish?
Yes and no. I get my internet through the telephone company which hawks Dish in this area. I do have a very high speed DSL line but can’t really say it comes through the satellite.
December 9, 2009 at 6:50 pm #821983I was going to have Dish hooked up at my new house today. but the installer said no go, too many trees…
now i’m stuck with comcast and their high prices.
December 9, 2009 at 6:58 pm #821985So there was no where on your entire lot that has a clear view to the south west? I think I would be firing up the chain saw.

BIG silver maple in the front yard and another in the backyard. way to big to just “trim up” or even cut down. and the other tree’s are neighbors trees. don’t think that would go over too well…

Request a second opinion… they might be able to find a spot on a post in the yard…. Most Sat. contractors don’t want to hassle with tough installs in weather like this.
If you have a compass with degree headings or sport GPS. You will be looking for compass heading of 96deg to 205deg SW and an elevation from 31 to 39. Clear line of sight… consider trees blooming come spring.
Good luckDecember 11, 2009 at 4:50 pm #822608had the Field Service Manager out yesterday, it is a NO GO from anywhere on the property, way too many large, mature trees.
and to think i wanted the mature trees when i bought this place this fall.
but, i did work with comcast and got Digital Preferred, 15 mbps internet for $79.99/month for 24 months. HD/DVR for free for 12 months, and the install fee at $29.99.
so, in the end, i’m much happier, cause it is by far the cheapest package i could find anywhere. btw – i was able to get this pricing by using the “live chat with a rep” feature on comcast.com. they have different pricing options then the 1800 number does.
