For you guys who make your own jigs where do you find your lead to melt. I have a Caldwell Lead Sled & two of the Lead Sled weight bags that hold about 25lbs of lead shot each. Since lead slot is getting so expensive I have a friend who pours jigs who will pour a bunch for me without the hooks for my weight bags. I am having trouble finding any, so for your guys who pour your own where do you find your lead, I need around 50lbs.

3rd Ave-20St, SE. Use wheel weights….much cheaper than pure lead.

Since you don’t need to worry about the quality of the lead, just use tire weights!

Would the lead plates out of a deep cycle work? There has to be about 20-30 pounds in one of those?? Never tried it as I don’t make my own jigs, but it was just a thought.

I think that would be his shorts.
His boss keeps telling him to “Get the lead out.”

Never ever try to use battery lead for smelting jigs, that lead goes thru a decontamition process,so not to put DEADLY vapors in the air.

I get lead from a plumbing wholesale house, it’s pretty cheap, they don’t use it much anymore, so they seem happy to sell it.

Thanks for all the replies I did find some lead from a member here, once again IDO comes through man I love this place!

I did call some tire shops before I posted here and none of them would give or sell any they all had recyclers they had to give it to. If anyone is in need of any lead shoot me a PM, I got offers for more than I needed.

I’ve tried the battery thing and you’d be supprised how little you get considering having to deal with the acid and then smelting it down, not worth it. imho

Also be careful smelting lead, some of the shooters I know smelted their own bullets as I do, but they ended up with lead poisioning from doing it, use plenty of ventilation and wash before eating or doing anything else.
