I am looking at having a remote car starter put in my wife’s car and was wondering what would be a good one to get? Also where would be a good place to have it installed in the St. Cloud area?

    Thanks,
    Jamie

I’m doing the same thing rev, I had a viper on my last truck and loved it. Range was great and never had an issue with it. Looking at getting the same one for the wifey.

DEI or Viper same thing. They have a new 2 way with a colored display, way cool. The install is more important then the equipment. Make sure they Solder and DO NOT use crimp connectrs,or else you will have problems down the road. I used to install at Mach 1 and that is how we did it and fixed all Best Buys installs.

Dave if you buy the right one I think you can, I think my Compustar would if you spent a little extra.

I ran a Compustar car start in my truck, sadly I got a really poor install and it’s not working anymore, now I don’t use the truck enough to put in the time or money to fix it.

Locally there is a place called Tintmasters (burnsville/savage) area that does Compustar remote car start, though I haven’t had the actually work on my alarm, they seem to be top notch, did a great job on my window tint, and even some warranty “work” on my Compustar even though they didn’t install it, (the place that did is near by, but I wouldn’t ever go back) I have little doubt they’d do a less than perfect job.

Heck I may just call them up and have them schedule one….

I should mention Compustar has really good range, advertised 6000′ Range( 2 way remote), the one time I really tested it with a gps, I was 4500′ away in the boat and it worked and the truck was a lot higher up and with a bunch of trees in the way, It was good enough for me, clear shot I’m pretty sure it can indeed do 6000′.

Just called price wise, remote start and alarm is in the $380- $600 range, depending on option, remote start alone with 6000′ is just under $500. Albeit not maybe the cheapest option they are really nice, I went with this over a DEI alarm system (snake and bug named products, like viper and hornet) Though they seem to be really solid preformers too.

I had LeRoy’s Custom in Blaine do mine in my ’03 GMC. First rate job, I was very happy. I believe it was a Astrostart also. Anyway, there was a cheaper model that I bought my kids for Christmas the year after I got mine. Didn’t seem to do nearly as good a job for them.

I was on the third floor of a motel and the truck was on the other side of the building in the back of the lot and it fired right up!! Mine was programmed to shut off after running for 10 minutes. On really cold days I just ran it through 2 cycles.

Regarding those heated seats. It may depend on the vehicle and the unit installed. You could have the installer add an extra relay for an extra $15-$20 during install, if all your outputs are used.Your case might not be that easy. If the power switch is a momentary switch, I (think) you are S.O.L… But if you can turn the switch on,and when you restart your vehicle its still on, then the extra relay should work for you.I would recommend Mach1 for installs, they have done 5 for me. The viper seems to be one of the best on the market. F.Y.I. In most key fobs you can stack or double up the batteries for twice the range.

Had a new 99 grand prix GT start on fire while driving it home from college 10 years ago place that installed it just put the box ontop of the wires under the dash. Turned around going about 80-90 back into town police officer saw me turned around and I stopped and they called the fire department to put it out. Not a total loss but I did not want that car back after seeing the dash riped out and it being hosed down by the fire truck. Ended up getting salvage value and bought a 2000 grand prix GTP. So a good installer is key.

http://www.tintmasters.net/ is in Burnsville they are a compustar dealer, not sure why they don’t show up.
Mach 1 did compustar several years ago, not sure if they still do, never personally dealt with them.

I will second Mach 1 if your looking for a quality install (stay away from BB and the like). I just had a 2 way Viper installed in my wifes Highlander there a couple weeks ago. The 2-way Viper is $299 + any extra parts you may need (security key bypass…etc…etc.). One of the last good car audio shops around that I am aware of…..they have been around for a while!
