I’m not sure if many people know about this, but I had no idea. Your stored passwords can be seen by other people that use your computer.

Go to Tools -> Options -> then Security. Clicking saved passwords shows all the sites that have your saved passwords. At the bottom click Show Passwords, and there they are.

What I have done in the Security area is to click the box that says ‘Use a master password’. This won’t protect it completely, but a little better.

This might not be a big deal to some, but I use my laptop at work and sometimes my co-workers will use mine to look stuff up.

I didn’t see this in IE.

Or just unclick the “remember passwords for sites” button and enter a password each time. Clearing the history or private data doesn’t hurt either.

Thanks for the heads up and a good tip. Now I have a place to find a few dozen pw’s I created over the past few years. I just hope I remember my “master password” 5 weeks from now.

As mentioned there is an upside. finding the P/W that you thought you’d remember! Good tip just the same.

That is the best way, I’m sure. Unfortunately I have 30 sites in my list with a few different PWs. Only one fishing site though.

My post was just a heads up. Has anyone found this with internet exploder?

I don’t, but don’t use it much. I don’t even see it with firefox. I have about 25 passwords remembered and none of them show up. I never have to log in to sites, but my remembered password list is empty.

I don’t believe there is a natively integrated way to reveal these passwords within IE.

    However……
That being said, you can recover them in about 10seconds with many different programs. All saved usernames and passwords shown, right there in clear text…

Best rule of thumb is to never save your passwords on a computer that anyone else may use.

Don’t have an Options selection under tools. Maybe because I’m using a Mac and the Tools drop down menu is different than a PC.
