The Venetian is very cool but can be on the spendy side. I would at least go there and walk around. The downtown rock and roll lazer show is is pretty neat if you are into that sort of thing. Like roller coasters? Take a trip to the top of the Stratosphere. It will blow your mind.
We love the Flamingo. Center of the strip which is where we like. OK to visit downtown but wouldn’t like to stay there. Also in the center of the strip where we have stayed is Harrahs and Treasure Island. We were just there in Aug. and saw 2 shows, Terry Fader and Blue Man Group. Both great shows. Hope this helps.
Love staying downtown, you get the old vegas feel down there- atleast whats left of it. Hop aroung casinos all in walking distance, and cab it out to the strip. 4 queens is a very nice place downtown. My wife and I did a sunset horse back ride with a cowboy diner last time out. Scored big points with that one. I like the Imperial Palace if you like the strip. Its right in the middle and you can walk to trams to move up and down the strip. Have Fun!
Flamingo if you can get a view overlooking the bellagio water show. What an amazing site to fall asleep to. Also has an amazing pool.
The Wynn is for sure not a steal – but an amazing hotel.
If you don’t mind a castle theme – I’ve stayed in the spa suite at Excalibur – nice room and had the spa overlooking the strip – very affordable also. More children though.
I am also a big fan of the Rio – every room is a suite – but is off the strip. Have fell asleep at the pool drunk many of times.
Luxor is always a fun hotel – not the cheapest.
If you are flying out you may want to rent a car and go to the Hoover Dam. The sister inlaw and friends did it and said it was a fun adventure.
Also, don’t know if it is still around, but I would check out The Drive at the Sahara. Was open last time I was there. For 10 dollars and a breathalyser you get to pick two vehicles to drive. Either be on the race track or taking a hummer off road.

They let you go to town also – was awesome!
First off, you HAVE to go downtown to the original Vegas! Being on Fremont street is truly awesome.
There are lots of package deals if you look around, too. Try swavacations.com I think it is. cheapairfare or something like is another one. My buddy knows more than I do, so I’ll try to ask him, he’s always on top of it. You can get your room/passes/air all in one shot. It’s the only way to go.
We had a good time at MGM Grand a couple times when we were there.
New York, New York was great for the wife and I. They made us a heck of a deal on a room upgrade when we got there too. It was a danr nice suite. Have a good time!
NOT the Wynn – just there for a conference on the company and it was over $300 per night on the room and $12/mixed drink…
Just an FYI on where to avoid on your own dime…

I have stayed at the Bellagio, TI, Mirage, Wynn, Venetian, Imperial Palace and Harrahs.
Bellagio, incredible, but expensive, good location, very classy.
TI, very nice, a little bit to one end of the strip but stil in a good location, decent value
Mirage, rooms all redone and modernized in the last 2 years. Very good buffett for the price (right Jon?). Reasonably priced and center strip.
Wynn, very nice, sexiest cocktail servers in the WORLD but expensive and you feel like you have to dress up a bit.
Venetian/Palazzo, probably my favorite casino. Rooms are expensive, but are suites, so decent value. Even if you dont stay here, it is a must see.
IP, great location, low class, low price, but clean.
Harrahs, I was expecting IP like based on the $5/day price difference, but the rooms were very nice. This will probably be where I stay more often when I am paying the bill. Updated decor, flat screens, center strip, no complaints.
What will you be doing out there? Gaming, shows, clubs, eats, all the above? There are lots of deals available, even if you arent a hard core gambler.
BTW, we were there in Feb this year and it snowed. So pack your guidewear.

Yep, like the Mirage. Gotta hit that buffet at least one a trip! All of the other restaurants in there are great too. Great poker room and sports book. If you get a room there first trip out you wouldn’t be disappointed.

I would check out ARIA, which is opening in December, and is found in the new City Center. They are running specials as I type.

where did you see specials on this hotel? everything i’ve seen is 250/night +.
The horse ride we took was in the Red Rock Canyon. Worth every penny, plus its a nice diversion from the in your face Vegas. After going to Vegas 6 times over the years this was my most memorable adventure…
We’ve been staying at Fitzgerald’s for 20+ years. we’ve always enjoyed our stay and Fremont street is great.

My bad, the best hotel downtown is the Nugget. Check out this link for the best of everything Vegas. It is a fun way to make plans before you go…..http://www.allvegasguide.com/best_of_las_vegas/
Lets try that link again..

If you are looking for nice rooms at very cheap prices, check out Circus Circus. Stayed there in May for $24.00 per night.
