Over the last year I’ve developed a hardcore taste for fishing in the media… River Monsters, Hooked, etc., and I’ve also been catching In Fisherman on the DVR when they run it. Lately I’ve started catching Babe Winkleman’s show and something by a guy named Jimmy Houston. Winkelman and In Fisherman aren’t bad even if they don’t have top-notch production values, but this Houston guy… it’s… weird.

He spends the whole show giggling… and he kisses every fish he catches.

Still, it’s better than not fishing AND having no shows.

Does anyone else have any favorites that I should tune in to?

My favorite is Mark Sosin but I can’t find him anymore. His show is salt water, but what I liked is that he would show you everything he did and everything he used, bait, rods & reels ect. The whole show was about how the average guy can go out and catch fish.

I really like In-Fisherman, but sometimes they are a little backward about just where they are fishing.

    OOHH, that reminds me.

I have an idea for a fishing show… and I think it would rawk.

Of course, it’s starring me, duh.

But, the question is: to whom do I pitch it?? Any suggestions?

Yeah, I have had a good time watching them, and I would LOVE to go fishing with Stange at some point… but, they can be a bit cloak-and-dagger about it all and once in a while the astute viewer can catch them in a factual error or two. Still, they’re enjoyable…

There are some freakin cool shows there… still tho, if you’re a catfish freak like me there’s _nothing_ like an episode of River Monsters to get your heart beating faster and wish for funding to catch a goonch or a Wels of your very own!

There would have been an awesome Lake Sturgeon show…

However the 30 mph wind that blew the center window over and smashed my nose and glasses didn’t do much for the bite either. THAT was a long ride home.

I like Iaconelli’s City Limit Fishing. I like it because you don’t wonder if he filmed it over a weeks time and edited all the good parts into 1/2 hour. You also don’t wonder if he was just tipped off by a local guide about a lake where the fish are on fire or if he is fishing some remote Canadian lake or private pond down south *cough* Bill Dance. And he is fishing some pretty tough waters to boot.

I like all the other shows as well as they are entertaining and have good info, however City Limit Fishing has that raw element to it.

Yes! Awesome video! But, with a show like River Monsters, you’re not watching someone catch a 5-10# channel on waters you can get to, you’re watching someone catch a 400#, 8′ fish on waters you hope to be able to get to sometime before you die.

One is awesome, one just makes me hunger and thirst for the adventure of it all.

I love IDO and Waters and Woods. The only beef I have is the Mr Gillespie does not let his guides guests hold their PD eyes or other fish for that matter. If I caught my biggest walleye to date I would like a picture with it before he threw it back for me. Great content, great locations, but quit hoggin other guys fish.

I like Ike’s show because he fishes rivers alot.. and he is scrambling for a limit.. There used to be a term used by Fishing Facts.. but I can’t seem to remember it tonight.. ( of course at my age or status there are many things that I forgetting these days..)..

but Ike fishes small worms and does a ton of stuff that I do on the river..

He does seem to hit big fish when you just wouldn’t expect a big fish.. but that’s the sign of a good fisherman..

I’ll watch most fishing shows others I can do with out. Next to “IDO” I liked (havent seen it air lately) “The Next Bite” cause they were always after fish with teeth I think hands down for quality information and big fish IDO has the market dominated. I get tired of watching Kent Herbek fish on pool 2 and catch a sheepshead or 2. The shows filmed in Canada dont impress me much I have witnessed a buddy take two pieces of wood, some fishing line, some treble hooks and tie it all together and catch monster pike in Canada so those shows just arent of any real talent in my opinon, dont get me wrong they catch some NICE fish but I’ve never heard of anybody going up to Canada and NOT catching nice fish. Most of the other local shows you see the guys catching walleye but unlike IDO those fish arent of any real size, maybe they’ll get lucky and hook a nice ONE while filming. IDO is the show that is full of BIG fish on mostly local waters (once and a while James strays away) and like I said before you just dont get good quality info out of the other shows just a couple of guys catching average fish and screaming “GET THE FRABIL”

Any fishing show in the dead of winter I will watch, for the most part.

I wish I could find contact info for Ike, because I think he should do a show on pool 1 and above the falls. He’d have a nice back drop of Mpls., but he would have to set his limit high. That and perhaps fishing pool 2 around Saint Paul.

Me… I DVR the whole weekend and then start on SunSports for their Sunday lineup of saltwater fishing including Mark Sosin…

I am a big fan of the Lindner stuff old and new, as I think beside all of the advertising all of the shows do, they bring good educational content to the mix.

I am a big fan of what James is doing here and taped a show this weekend, am thinking that it might have been a rerun as I haven’t gotten a chance to view it yet.

For those of you lucky enough to get Dave Carlson’s Northland Adventures, he isn’t always about fishing and does some hunting as well as stuff out of state. He is also very conservation minded as well reminding me of the late Tony Dean. I have been watching Carlson since I was a child on the Lucky 13 Fishing Show from Eau Claire.

But my favorite is that Loud Mouthed Gillespie and here is why… His show is normally shot the week of and if you are so inclined, you could go fishing in the same area and stand a chance doing as well, maybe sometimes better than…

For instance the last two weeks he has been on the Castle Rock/Petenwell Flowages and has had decent success. They were catching fish (‘eyes, white bass, crappies & perch) and had decent success on a few larger fish as well. Yea, he’s obnoxious, but he shows extremely current stuff and that for me is why I love his show!!!

He can’t be as bad as Jimmy Houston though. He’s not 100% fishing and he’s all over the country, but he makes OBNOXIOUS look like a compliment on your manners. Dear god.

I’m gonna have to start watching for these shows! Thanks everyone… we should be compiling a list.
