I can’t even tell you what one is. What came to mind when I read the post title certainly can’t be repeated on this site.
I know they are good but I dont have the patience for them. I always burn the %$#&$# out of my mouth!!
FYI-they are burgers with cheese melted in the middle of the patty.
Whenever you talk best of something you have to go to the original since imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. So my vote is for Matt’s Bar and the Original Juicy Lucy. There is no other, hands down the best…

Matts followed by the 5-8 which has gone down hill in recent years IMO…
My favorite Burger joint is still the Golden Nugget in Minnetonka!

According to Mpls/St. Paul Magazine, it is Matt’s.
Where is this located?
Thanks,
FDR

3500 Cedar Ave. S. I guess… http://www.mattsbar.com/ There is a map on here. How about a roadtrip Francis…
5-8 club looks to be 2 miles straight south. http://www.5-8club.com/locations Man…am I getting hungry!!!
Matts is very good. I do have to say that the Nook or Shamrock in St Paul make a damn good version too.
Mmmmmmmm…….burgers…..
The FW just told me not to touch that one with a 10 ft. cane pole
In the rest of the midwest they are called a Patty Melt… Here the also have sauteed onions inside and are served between two slices of bread toasted.

Speaking of Minnetonka, I used to work right down the road from what I thought was “THE BEST” burger joint in the Twin Cities… it was the Wilhop Inn… a little hole in the wall bar/restaurant right on Hwy 7… they were the best They tore it down about 12 years ago or so… Even after we moved from the Twin Cities, the wife and I always had to hit Wilhop Inn when we went back

Actually a patty melt is a patty melt… it is not a burger with cheese “inside” it, it can be beef, turkey, salami, or even salmon, with swiss cheese and onions, between 2 pieces of bread (not bun) and heated. A Jucy Lucy is always hamburger with cheese “inside” it, served on a hamburger bun, with fixin’s…. I can order a patty melt at Perkins, but not a Jucy Lucy….

Haven’t been to Matt’s in a long time, the 5-8 was ok, IMHO The Nook in St.Paul makes the best jucy lucy (juicy nookie) I do not agree that Shamrock’s which is another nook location is as consistent or good, something to be said of the super small, super busy kitchen of the nook that the burgers get the attention they need. Another spot that you can get an outstanding jucy lucy, a small place called “Blue door” in St.Paul, on a good day they are amongst the best to be had, though they seem less consistent in cooking and quality at times, they also offer some different stuffed burger choices.
IMHO
1. The Nook http://www.crnook.com/
2. Blue Door http://www.thebluedoorpubmn.com/
3. Matts http://www.mattsbar.com
4. 5-8 http://www.5-8club.com
All of those on a good day are splitting hairs on which is better, depending on what you like, overall I think Matt’s is solidly consistent, the other three are upto the cooks, IMHO.
Side note, every once in awhile we get into mood where we go out and try a bunch of places that offer what we’ve been hungry for, we’ve done it with BBQ, Sushi, “athentic tacos” , Burgers and chicken. Never know what or when the next comparison will be, or how long it will go for. Sorry if I sound long winded on the topic
When I went to school in LaCrosse, they had a burger joint called Jucy lucy. That place had the best burgers ever. Especially at 2am.

508 club in brooklyn park….great little eatery!
I agree Calvin!
The Nook for sure. Close second goes to Matt’s. They both use great beef and man just thinking about a Juicy makes me wanna . I think I should have one tomorrow.
If you’re around St. Paul hit up the Nook or their sister bar, Shamrock’s. Shamrocks is a lot easier to get a table at and the menu is the same. It’s located at Randolph and West 7th — take the Randolph exit off 35E and head east on Randolph until you hit W 7th. The bar will be just to your left.
Another one that is great but impossible to get in at is the Blue Door Pub in St. Paul. It’s on Selby near Fairview. They have something like 10 juicy-lucys on their menu… http://www.thebluedoorpubmn.com/

Big G… The WilHop was the BOMB!!!! They did have the BEST J.L. up until they were closed down and torn down. Being a Cretin boy, I gotta give the nod to the Nook.

I lived a 1/2 block from that Jucy Lucy’s. I thought they were terrible. Classic Burger on the other hand ruled!!
I had a buddy that would put cream cheese and jalapenos in the middle…I think I am making them tonight…(-:
I’ve only eaten at the 5/8 club in Richfield/Minneapolis. Very good, burned the crap out of my mouth.
