It was pretending to come from Dean and I bit before I realized it was a bad deal….anybody know how to get rid of it without reloading the entire PC?
October 21, 2009 at 2:55 am #810510if you dont have anti virus protection i would get on the internet and download a free trail from a virus protection site that looks safe and good to you.We have done it before but I dont know if it will work for you but you could give it a try.
October 21, 2009 at 2:59 am #810512Same here…only on Facebook. I didn’t open it because my AVG warned me…and the spelling was worse than Dean would write.
October 21, 2009 at 10:36 am #810520So far I have done everything I know how to do to get rid of the thing. McAffee says everything is fine in normal mode but if you go into safe mode it tells you most of the security is turned off. When you try to fix it it tells you it cant because of an error. I dumped the security and reloaded it to no avail. I is some kind of reacurring virus. McAfee keeps telling me it is stopping it but doesnt seem to be able to get rid of it. I am off to work shortly. If anyone finds out how to fix the situation let me know.
October 21, 2009 at 12:12 pm #810532I recieved it through friends list from almost everyone,my avg said it caught it as well…..this stuff sucks.
October 21, 2009 at 12:17 pm #810535Try Malwarebytes. Then stop using McAfee and get a free anti-virus like AVG.

+1. ESPECIALLY “stop using McAfee”
AVG or Avast (use Avast personally).
In terms of fixing your problem, give me a little more information about what exactly is infecting your machine, and I might be able to help you out with some simple instructions.
First, I need you to download and run an application. It’s safe. All you’re going to do with it right now is use it to generate a log of your computer’s registry.
The program is HijackThis, and you can get it for free HERE
Download it, run it, tell it to scan your machine and “save a log file”.
Open up the log file when it’s done, highlight and copy all of it’s contents, and PM it to me. This should give me enough info to determine what you’re dealing with there.

i have 6 PCs in the family with avast and have yet to get a virus. and i have some very trusting people surfing the net. grandma listens to everything those Gosh Darn popups tell her to.
October 21, 2009 at 6:50 pm #810626I just installed Avg…it tells me the file WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\fio32.dll is the infected file with a worm called koobface.l . Having something in this file is a bad deal, and AVG is telling me to do something with it but I believe this is a required file to run. I sure hope Mr Koobface knows he’s in for some “bad” stuff if I catch up with him. I ran the Hijack scan…could not see anything terrible in there although there must be.

fio32.dll is NOT a Windows file.
Do as AVG says… delete it immediately, and scan again.
If you attempt to delete it manually (which I don’t suggest, let AVG do it), you might get a window that says the file is in use. If you see this message, go into your task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete), click the “Processes” tab, scroll down until you see any process bearing a strong resemlence to “fio32.dll” or “koobface”. Highlight and hit “End Process” on any such entries, and then attempt to delete that .dll file. There is a VERY good chance that there are one or more registry keys that need to be removed. So if you’re still experiencing trouble, feel free to send that HijackThis log, and I can point out anything that needs to go.
[edit]
more info on the .dll file and the worm, if you’re feeling gun shy:

got 1 word for all of ya. ” MAC”!!!
Knew that was coming eventually.
My main problem with Macs… that price tag doesn’t keep it from becoming just as obsolete as a PC in the same amount of time.
I’m just sayin’
