If anyone is trying to reach me via my [email protected] e-mail address you will not be able to reach me. You can reach me at [email protected]. This and two other of my internet accounts have been compromised by theft of my passwords. The investigating parties have an idea of who has done it, but it may take several days to get it cleaned up. If you are currently using any of the last two versions of hotmail for anything important, I suggest you protect yourself. I have had 0 problems since 1999 but as they have tried these last two versions(both changed within the last two monthes(a new one today) I have
had several major security problems. If anyone sends you an e-mail from [email protected] please PM me.

Several sites are already working and I just had a final discussion from MSN about 5 minutes ago. Problem is being fixed as I post. JUST A HEADS UP FOR ALL OF US. RIGHT NOW A FRAUDULENT GROUP OF E-MAILS IS CIRCULATING ASKING YOU TO UPDATE SITE INFORMATION USUALLY ASSOCIATED WITH ONE OF THE ONLINE SALES VENUES, THE OPENING PAGE IS A LOGIN PAGE IDENTICAL TO WHAT YOU HAVE SEEN ON THE SITE YOU ARE ASKED TO UPDATE….THERE GOES YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD AND IF YOUR NOT THINKING THE NEXT PAGE ASKS FOR MORE PERSONAL FINANCIAL INFO. I REALIZED NONE OF THE VENUES I USE WOULD ASK FOR THAT INFO ON A NONSECURE SITE SO I BACKED OUT AND OFCOURCE THEY ALREADY HAD MY USER ID AND PASSWORD. THEN THE LAME BRAIN PART CAME IN. I HAD RECENTLY CHANGED SOME PASSWORDS AS I DO ON A REGULAR BASIS AND UNFORTUNATELY SEVERAL WERE THE SAME BECAUSE I WAS TOO LAZY TO THINK UP SEVERAL NEW ONES. OH WELL. UNBELIEVABLY HOTMAIL IS THE ONLY ONE LEFT TO CHANGE AND THEY ALL ONLY TOOK 5 HOURS.

I’ve had a couple emails asking for me to update my ebay information. Because it looked odd to me, I sent it to ebay. Sounds like once you clicked on the link in the email it took you to a site that “looks” like ebay, then has you enter you credit card info…

Also, about a month ago, I received an email form “visa” asking to verify my account. I sent it to my wife (in the other room) pointing out if she would follow the directions…we would be paying for someone elses Chirstmas gifts this year. After she looked at it, she said she would have followed the directions..because she thought it was a legit email from visa.

Really, the only way you could tell was because at the bottom of the email it had “zzxxcsyf” or something similar.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting eBay’s Trust and Safety Department about email
solicitations that are falsely made to appear to have come from eBay.
These emails, commonly referred to as “spoof” messages, are sent in an
attempt to collect sensitive personal information from recipients who
reply to the message or click on a link to a Web page requesting this
    information.

The email you reported did not originate from, nor is it endorsed by,
eBay. We are very concerned about this problem and are working
diligently to address the situation. We have investigated the source of
this email and have taken appropriate action. You may rest assured that
your account standing has not changed and that your listings have not
    been affected.

We advise you to be very cautious of email messages that ask you to
submit information such as your credit card number or your email
password. eBay will never ask you for sensitive personal information
such as passwords, bank account or credit card numbers, Personal
Identification Numbers (PINs), or Social Security numbers in an email
itself. If you ever need to provide information to eBay please open a
new Web browser, type http://www.ebay.com, and click on the “site map” link
located at the top the page to access the eBay page you need.

If you have any doubt about whether an email message is from eBay,
please forward it immediately to [email protected] and do not respond to it
or click on any of the links in the email message. Please do not change
the subject line or forward the email as an attachment.

If you entered personal information such as your password, social
security number or credit card numbers into a Website based on a request
from a spoofed email, you need to take immediate action to protect your
identity. We have developed an eBay Help page with valuable information
regarding the steps you should take to protect yourself.

To get to the “Protecting Your Identity” Help page from the eBay site,
please click on the “help” link located at the top of most eBay pages
and select the following topics when the “eBay Help Center” window
    appears:

Safe Trading > If Something Goes Wrong > Identity Theft

We encourage you to review additional information about protecting your
identity found in the eBay Help system. Please click on the “help” link
located at the top of most eBay pages and select the following topics
when the “eBay Help Center” window appears:

Safe Trading > If Something Goes Wrong& > Account Theft > Account
    Protection

Once again, thank you for alerting us to the spoof email you received.
Your vigilance helps us ensure that eBay remains a safe and vibrant
    online marketplace.

Sorry if that one was a little long. I’ve edited all the email addresses and headers out…but yet wanted to get the info out.

I’d hate to see someone lose the money in one of their accounts!

Lawrance, I almost forgot…I do a lot of job postings and in the past have used my email address in the posting. I got feed up with the spam I was getting on my company computer. Turns out…anytime you place your email address on the net “webcrawlers” search for them…and then you get more spam…

You’re much better off sending your new email address to your friends mail boxes directly.

I sometimes forget that IDA posts and the other boards out there are on the net and open to the public and some shady folks.

    Just a thought

Brian is right on with this one. I too post a lot of jobs on the internet, and am constantly bombarded with spam. I have created another email address that I use for job postings only. There are just too many people out there who will do anything they can to screw you out of your money. Keep all things safe, and assume the worst with people who you deal with on the net. Present company excepted.

I got the ebay one too…..just about fell for it but there was something I tried to open and it “errored” me. Then I decided to go to ebay and ……………. no problems…………..in fact, no issues! So I figured someone was full of it and I’ve been ignoring them/deleting them. Whenever I see them now, I just figure, if ebay’s going to suspend my account for security reasons, they’ll do and offer a grace period to rectify anything that might be my doing.

These emails have been telling me for the last 3 months that my ebay account was going to be suspended…………NOT!!!!
