This is an old post brought to the top for Jeremy and his carp he’s looking to have mounted.

    It’s been replaced!

With Realtor Ron’s 140 pound Alligator Gar that some say was caught in the WI Back Channel…and others say the Trinity River in Texas.

Ron had his reproduction done at Nature’s Image Taxidermy. It’s exactly as I remember it…less the anger. Both Ron and I agree that John, the owner of Nature’s Image did an outstanding job on recreating the memories we had on our trip South.

If you have a chance, stop into Everts and check this mount out. The photo just doesn’t do it justice.

    Total length is 84 inches.

Funny, I didnt notice that thing when I was there there today….

I must have been exhausted from all the baking I did this morning.

That last picture shows it’s size best of the three. But I will also admit the business end with all of them teeth might make a guy jump like a sally.

I missed it too. Dang it! Anything that can put BK up on top of a cooler and cause him to scream at a pitch that has dogs barking off in the distance will need to be seen in person.

Holy crap! That thing is monstrous!

Now I have another reason to return to Evert’s….besides seeing what BK can break next.

Two things about Ron- he can catch the monsters, and he has a really cool last name.

BK and Realtor Ron were getting to unload it from a van when I dropped you off. Even this fake fish is awfully impressive in person. I can only imagine (and frankly, only WANT to imagine) the real thing.

Here’s a couple more photo’s to help get a grip on the size.

    Loading into a mini van.

BTW I said it before Dean could….”Ron, don’t get anything larger mounted!”

    Awesome fish and mount!

Hopefully no one else catches anything bigger than that otherwise Dean will have to add on an add an addition onto the bait and tackle shop!

Great fish Ron. Im going to need to come down and see that in person. So what happened to the sturgeon mount? You guys should throw a photo of that up here to. Those 2 fish together could make that bait shop lean a little to one side. Great mounts.

Tuck, John did the head and horns of a Texas Long Horn. The spread was in excess of 9 feet!

When they wiggled it into the mini van they couldn’t close the doors and had to drive to Duluth with it…in FEB!!

Since the owner lived in an older farm house, they were thinking they would have to put in a patio door!

Another couple went to Africa. The wife was to take photos of the hubby shooting. She saw he was having so much fun with the 7 animals he shot, they went back again with her shooting.

With 15 mounts in the the process, they built an addition to their house to display them.

I don’t know the full story of the gentleman that built a mountain in one of his rooms..I’ll check on that next time I see John.

Mike, Ron’s sturgeon is on display at Ron’s house. We call it the “minnow” because it’s dwarft by the gar.

I’ll see if I can locate the photo.

That sturgeon was no minnow. Those are both great fish and Im sure great stories to go with both.

    More so with the Gar.

Ron ended up in the hospital with pneumonia in both lungs the same night he landed his gar. They wouldn’t let him fly home for 5 days. With more testing, the doctors concluded that he had a heart attack…once more, if it weren’t for the medication he was taking..he wouldn’t have made it.

So less than 3 weeks after catching this gar, he was in the hospital with by-pass surgery.

Someone wanted him to have a fantastic trip in Sept of ’08 because they were going to mess with his heath for quite a while after it. He’s been recovering ever since…although his looks haven’t improved much. (I know you’re reading this )

So, yeah there’s a good story behind that little guy.

    Well…it could have been.

It was about a 1/3 of a fish that resembled a 18 inch buffalo. The bait ended up being about the size of a plucked chicken.

She wasn’t all that big when a person considers the Tx record is around 325 pounds.

    Update:

Ron passed away in August of ’09.

The Sturgeon was donated to the MN DNR Office in Lake City and is on display there now.

The gar is at his home.

John at Natures Image can make a mount that you’ll think is real. (no poisonous reptiles any more though).
