I’m hoping there are a few out there that can reply. I built my own rod out of a $120 St. Croix blank last year and today while tossing a spinner bait it exploded into a pile of graphite shards next to my ear. Sounded like a gun going off. It shattered between the reel handle and the first eyelet so it doesn’t appear to be anything I did when I built it but the question I have is since I built it from a blank am I basically out of luck and need to buy/build a new one?

There should be a warranty on the blank. I had a similar situation with a different brand, and I got a new blank out of the deal.

Talk to the guys at Thorne Brothers. They’ll set you straight.

St Croix has a great history of standing behing their products. Over the years, I have sent a few back for replacement. No questions asked and a replacement blank has been sent back to me. You are responsible for rebuilding the rod.

Have Deano send it in for you. They will ship you back a new blank and also ship back the broken rod. You can either use that for parts, or put a farrell on it and use it again.

Thanks everyone. I’m looking for good reason for a trip to pool 4 this week. Maybe see you dean on Wednesday if all goes well. Rod in hand.
