    12 Noon – Today

So, I have my buddy drop me off, after a quick 1/2 day, at the Gray’s Bay Public boat landing (Viking kick off in 5 minutes!)- where I have parked my truck in one of the few “non-trailer” parking spaces and I notice a complete “cluster F#%@#$%” going on at the landing where a POS fishing boat is parked – with a guy holding it to the landing dock and a couple of boats are trying to get around him (Note – there are 3 docks right next to him for parking and waiting until your trailer is there)

I get to my truck – load my gear and a guy in a POS Dodge Truck is talking on the cell phone and takes the time to make a comment, to me, about what a bad parking spot I am in and how I will just have to wait. (I note that the POS trailer looks like it may fit under the POS fishing boat that appears to be causing this mess).

Me, being the kinda guy that I am, just have to walk up to him and ask him if he has a fishing boat tethered to the boat ramp dock. Of course, in his “I must be the only person at this landing look”, replies “”yes”. I then ask, “is this your first time out on the lake?” He looks at me with a real puzzled look.

To that end, I advise him that his “parking spot” on the landing dock is the cause of this complete mess and it would be a real pleasure to me and the other 15 people trying to use the ramp, if he could get it out of the way. That way, the rest of us could be on the way with the rest of our day.

He says to me” you don’t have to be such a smart A$$”? huh? who was the guy commenting on my bad draw of a parking spot.

I love the public landings on beautiful days. I still am amazed at how people really have no common courtesy when boating and loading/unloading at the ramp. There really should be a course that you have to pass in order to get your boat license renewed in MN.

I agree 100% every boat owner should have to pass a driving test ON THE WATER with an official C.O. before they are allowed to use the lakes that our fishing lic. fees help pay for. People like that urine me off in the worst way.

I hate the people that pull up into the approach lane, block the landing so they can be the next one in the water. They then proceed to get out of there vehicle nice and slow and TAKE THE COVER OFF OF THERE BOAT!!!! They then start tying up the rods that they are going to use for the day and get there boat squared away. Then they land there boat and tie it to the dock creating the same cluster F@$& that you have previously explained. They go and park there vehicle, use the bathroom, go back to there vehicle because there dumb a$$ forgot something, and finally after 25 minutes of screwing the pooch they manage to get the hell out of they way and let the real fisherman do there thing.

My opinion is that before you pull your boat into position you should have all of this done and then get in line like everybody else!!!

As long as we are venting…Guys teach your wives/girlfriends to back a trailer!!!! It takes a minute or less at the ramp. They can all learn it with some patience in a big empty parking lot.The time you spend can pay divedends the rest of your boating career.

    Agree…

If we’re venting, some of you guys also need learn how to back-up, and teach your buddies. The best place to learn is in a parking lot, not the ramps. My wife can back-up better than any guy in my family. Of course I taught her and she hated me the whole time of training, but she is great at it.

My wife can back a trailer up, around a corner, and into the drink.

Guys just shake there heads when I am perched up in the drivers seat of my boat.

    It is really pretty fun

Don’t get me started I’ve seen these scenarios play out several times this summer and most of these jack s have no clue why everyone is so I just sit back and let someone else blast the idiots. I fish alone quite often (by choice) and I can still get my rig on or off the water faster than most that have a boat load of people with them.

I can’t get my wife to load the boat. She would rather drive the truck and back the trailer up.

We had an Idoer down at Everts on a slow afternoon teaching his female partner own to load the boat.

I’ve had good success on a couple of occasions by taking a couple of deep breaths, talking to myself to make sure I didn’t have any anger in my voice. The talking to the “Fair Weather” boater and explaining the ropes of loading and unloading boats at busy launches. Only had one guy that didn’t want to hear it…so I didn’t finish.

    BTW Mrs BKC….

OP, you really do gotta say something. It’s just ignorance in my opinion and if everyone just gets mad quietly, it’ll just happen over and over. When they call you names, then you can rip em a new one. It’s always good to start off nice.
