A pic of this weekends catch!

Took the family and camper out to Lake Amelia near Alex this weekend. Me and the little guy ( 3 1/2 years old) had about an hour gap in the day on Sat. to hit the water. Grabbed some leeches and hopped in the boat. The plan was for me to lindy for some walleyes and he would fish out the side with a bobber. I have his CARS rod on a slip bobber set up (yes, we don’t just go for the sunnies with this guy)so I set the depth at 15′ and put a couple big spitshots on in an attempt to keep him close to the bottom. Tipped with a bead and # 6 green hook we were on our way.. I started to backtroll when I realized this wouldn’t work since his bobber would go under the boat, then around the bow,,etc. So I reeled up and told him that we were going to reset and try it drifting. As I grabbed his rod I noticed the bobber was under about a foot. I just thought that it snagged bottom during my direction change but then realized that he had one on! I handed the rod to him right as the fish pulled some monster drag. So I told him to keep reeling and I would hold the shaft of the rod so the fish wouldn’t pull it out of his hands.. I set the drag really loose and watched the show! It was awesome.. It took about 5-6 minutes before we even got a look at it.. another 10 to land it after about a dozen runs!

We got it in the boat and he freaked out! High fives and hugs all over the place.. We had to go to the doc so mom and brother could get a looksy and take some pics. Nolan said he wanted to let him go so another little boy could catch him too. I’m really proud of my little man! I just hope that he doesn’t get hooked on this slimer thing. Congrats on your new PB Nolan!!

    Oh… Right on 30 Inches!

walleyebuster that is a great memory! Northerns are always a big deal to our younger fishing buddies.I really like the fact you are setting a great example of wearing your PFD while your little guy wears his!!! Hope the fish keep biting for both of you.

Thanks! And yes, normally I don’t wear it like most others but when the little guys are with I wear it all the time! If I expect them to wear it then I should be wearing mine too. The wierd thing is,, I feel a little naked now when I don’t wear it,, kinda like the seatbelt in the car thing.

Nice Gator!!! It’s just as much fun if not more for DAD to see their kids catch their first fish as it is for them!!!
