Snake problem !!!

As I start the transition to South Dakota I have found that my line in the sand is if the snake is poisonous or not. We have a few snakes around the place and I leave them be but so far two Rattlers have went to their maker. Luckily it seems that if there are rattlers around you will see them on the roads in the mornings and evenings and then they are easy targets for the 22 mag with birdshot. I have discovered that a Fox snake looks alot line a rattler and I need to see the tail to be sure. One old six footer was pretty close to tasting lead when I caught sight of his tail and he is still crawling around out there today. I did give him directions to BK’s place just in case he needed company.

I’m tol the rattlers were extremely thick this year out there. A dog was killed in my home town recently, which has never had a rattler problem. They are guessing it has a lot to do with the water levels rising pushing the snakes up to look for new dens/dry ground etc… All I know, I hate snakes and have no use for any of them. Archery hunting the breaks out there gave me the willies at times when I’d run across any kind of snake. Like you said, early morning or late night drives you can see them on the roads a lot this time of year.

We have been out there since 2005 and this is the first year we have seen any around the house so I suspect it is because the water has raised so much. I know there were 4 dead ones laying in the parking lot at Chantier Creek when I was out there a couple weeks ago. Bet there was a story to that but have no idea what it was.

The nice thing about SD, we can carry loaded weapons year round, uncased like this panzy state!

Yes, but you have to have a special license for it. Not in SD. Wide open, laying on the dash baby. Redneck style(no pun intended).

BTW, back in the day. My CC permit consisted of sitting down with the county sheriff. Paying $5.00 and he signed a form. I have no clue with the rules are now days.

Not much different now Kooty. I think it is filling out a form and $12 but that was a few years back. Hey if that is Redneck style then I am proud to share a name with it. I know I just throw the 22 mag in the trunk loaded with birdshot and don’t really worry about it. Common sense is still common in South Dakota!!!!
