Never seen one this big. Anyone have an idea of what kind of spider this is?

Don’t know, but I had a very similar one in my garage last summer, and wondered what it was as well.

It would be a lot easier to determine the species if you could get a picture of it on your arm.

You know I was sitting next to that thing for a good 20 minutes before I realized he was sitting next to me. Thats when I almost went in the lake jumping up.

Great. Now I gotta start packing spider repellent along with my snake repellent.

Do they make bird shot for a .40?

It looks like a dock spider to me. They get really big and they are always by water.

Yep. A Dock Spider. They are pretty common on lakes up North. Saganaga has some monsters if you want to go Dock Spider hunting!

Wolf spider is what was in my garage. Generally spiders don’t bother me, but picking up a backpack to have that thing hanging on it scared the beejeezus out of me. Let me tell you what, they are FAST too. It was gone before I could get a foot on it!

I think the more common name is fishing spiders. I sat next to one once too. Didn’t see him until he reeled in a 20# flathead.

I saw them one year up at the cabin. Those suckers get BIIIIIG. Careful when moving the tire tread around on your dock if you use them as bumpers on your dock.

Those things fish too??? Especially when they crawl around where ever they want to go and you can’t hear them and you never know where they are. They climb unheard and jump from limb to limb or limb to ? Ever walk into a big spiders web in the middle of the night and you can hear the web stands breaking?, now thats a spider. Snakes don’t bother me much but spiders are sneaky and you can’t hear them. WOAH!!!WOOOAH!!!

Yep, fishing spiders or dock spiders will make me run on water! They can run on the waters surface, or go under the water! They are Mega fast, and nasty looking! I’ve seen them in Canada, and around here.(quite a few on the Snake river) I’m not a fan of spiders, and these things are bye far my least favorite. I almost put my hand on one a couple times. Once in Canada on a rock, and once on the river on a branch! My heart is still beating fast from thinking about it!

I saw mine on Knife lake, so they must just love the area! The weird thing is one year we saw them on a retaining wall hanging out and the we noticed them on the tires. However, that was the only year so far that I have seen them up there. Maybe they were passing through.

What are you guys talking about. They eat all the little 1# fish so the rest of the population has enough to eat and grow!
