Let me get this straight…

One football player (Stallorth) kills a person by hitting him with a car. He gets 30 days in jail, some house arrest…and probation.

Now, Plazico Burress Shoots HIMSELF in the leg and gets two year in prison???

This means I would be better off shooting Tuck in the head than shooting my own big toe!! (example only)

    That’s NUTS!

The details are technically correct. However the situations are very much different. Plax is an idiot for carrying a loaded weapon in sweats(of all things to wear clubn’) in NYC.

I’m with Kooty on this one. Stallworth was a little over the limit, but he hit a guy that ran across a road and wasn’t in the crosswalk. That could happen to anyone, under the influence or not. Either way it’s very unfortunate, though.

Kooty, are you saying the other guy was smart for driving drunk??

I completely agree with you. But in the end no one was hurt except himself. Stallworth actually killed a man, the dumbass with all the money, can’t afford a taxi to his booty call. Where were the mothers against drink drivers there…. I bet if they were to step in on this his neck would be on the chopping block.

Whether or not he could have avoided Reyes may become a moot point if lab results show he was legally impaired at the time.

On another part of the report the officers list careless driving, and exceeding the safe speed limit, as contributing factors.

He was legally speaking, over the FL blood/alcohol level.

Maybe his sentence is correct but then Bergs should have received an award for stopping a bullet that could have killed someone.

    Am I off on this?

Jeez, a football thread that doesn’t mention you know who? I’m stunned!

Absolutely NOT!! However, the guy went out into traffic. Sober or not, I know a lot of intersections I drive every day that would put me into the same situation. It’s a very, very sad situation. Ask the family of the poor man who was killed. They were realistic from the comments I read. Yes, he should have gotten a cab.

As much as it pains you CC supporters(me too), NYC has very strict laws about carrying. Plax should have gotten 3.5 years, but bargained down to 2 by pleading guilty(lowest ever by this DA). I do not have case study to fall back on, but it’s my understanding this is a major initiative for the mayor/DA. Plax should hire a body guard.

Easy solutions, but as we know these athletes tend to think with the pants not there brain.

According to NY gun laws, he is lucky to only get two years.

I think shooting yourself in the leg is more that enough for punishment.

No the bullet should never have been there if it wasn’t for Plax.

Hey, if you want to go this route, then why did Vick get 2.5 years for some stupid dogs. Isn’t human life more valuable than dogs?? Not according to PETA of course.

    Unbelievable.

I wasn’t looking at it as a CC issue…or a foot ball issue.

Just that a mans life was taken by someone breaking the law and another broke the law and shot himself…no one else was hurt.

The author of that article takes a lot of “what if’s” into account.

I guess the j-walker got what he had coming.

I take it you didn’t check out the author’s bio.

I don’t remember the legal term but because the j-walker was j-walking, he shares in the responsibility of what happens to him.

I agree that 30 days is laughable, but NY has tough gun laws and he broke them. Playing dumb (or in his case being dumb) to the laws is not an excuse.

The details are always important in these cases. It sounds like in the Stallworth case, they must have felt the accident would likely have happened regardless of the DUI. Otherwise, I don’t know how he’d get 30 days.

not even, peta killed more dogs last year than vick ever did. there was a thread around the first of the year that said peta in DC ended up killing over 95% of the strays they took in cuz they couldnt find homes for them or afford to keep em..

I still can’t believe that Vick gets back in the NFL sfter what he did, A-Rod, McGwire, Bonds, Big Poppy, Ramirez…all get to or got to play their sports.

Yet after all these years, Pete Rose is still banned for life from baseball.

    Does that seem right?

    That right there is funny!

I don’t think the punishments necessarily match either but, the laws against carrying guns illegally for example, may have stronger penalties to deter people from carrying and then using them in crimes. Vehicular manslaughter on the other hand, may not be as far along in the advancement of the penalties since we can’t put in penalties against driving. I would guess as the years go by, the penalty here will catch up to the magnitude of the crime.

    Now I’ve got it!!

    So I’m slow.

All I need to do is shoot myself…then once in prison collect the cash! Way Cool!!

    1700 inmates recieve stimulus checks<<<

I’m not sure if or this is more appropriate!
