Painting a propane tank

I really need to paint my 500 gallon propane tank. To prep the surface should I be concerned with the meathod I use to do so? Maybe I should start by saying the tank and lines were pressure tested 2 years ago with no leaks. Can I take my angle grinder with a wire wheel to smooth out the cracks in the paint if I turn off the valve on the tank?

I feel this would be safe, I just have never painted any type of flamable fuel tank before and need other openions/feedback.

    Use Aircraft Paint stripper.

Call the company that provides your gas.

A few years ago my gas company painted my tank. All they did was to take a regular brush to clean the tank then used spray paint. Need to do it again now on the new larger tank I have. Will probably do it myself. No big deal that I can see.
    Good luck

I have done this for a gas company as a summer job in high school. We just brushed them with a wire brush and applied the paint with a roller.

I called them, they do it all of the time. They lease tanks to customers and keep them painted. He said it is sealed and as long as I turn off the valve I won’t have any problems. And do not use latex paint.

    Thanks everyone
