I am heading South with my kids, ages 6 and 9, We plan to do little camping, biking and exploring. I plan on visiting Mystery cave. I am not packing any fishing rods so fishing out, even though I know about the great trout fishing in this area.
I was wondering what other attractions and restaurants that you recommend.

    Thanks,
    Ron

The Amish tours are kind of fun, the bakery goods are to die for!

Not sure how old the kids are but, Forestville State Park is close to Mystery cave. Also might check out the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in Spring valley MN. Tours are 10am – 4pm daily.

You have a massive set of bike trails throughout Preston and Lanesboro, canoe rental, inner tubing down the Root from Lanesboro. This weekend is Buffalo Bill Days in L., so the town will be packed with stuff – parade on Sunday.

Places to eat: lots of stuff in Lanesboro proper, Rushford has a few, Preston – not so much, Los Gables Mexican food in Fountain.

    Enjoy,

My kids spend a huge amount of time in the boat, this trip is to show them other outdoor activities

You’ll have the historic town right there. Lanesboro offers trout hatchery tours and is not too far to travel to. That whole valley is full of unique things for the whole family to do.

Someone mentioned the Amish and thier baked goods. You can often find them selling these right along the hiways. The bread is unreal even without being cut and buttered. The pies….just get two. Or three.

And the Amish have been cooking bread for sooo long in the kitchens that they don’t need to use yeast! Really! There’s enough in the air floating around! The tours are really cool and cheap, some are horse drawn which my boys thought were really cool.
