Chris, in your experience, how hot does the oil have to be for those smallies?

After that comment you might want to hide your GPS, I could always use more GPS cords

Guys, I have inquired about rooms for Tuesday night at the Fall’s Motel for Stick and myself, Slider and Pete…anyone else looking to stay there that night? Sounds like the boats will be filling up about 10 AM on Wednesday, so that means the starts flowing at 10:01 AM. I am all for getting there Tuesday night instead of driving up in the -crack of dawn and listening to Stickboy snore while I drive…..or maybe that was the other way around…

    Anyways…

James or Chris…what time will we be docking Sunday? This will impact the meal schedule we are all planning. Also, when is the meeting/seminar/smack talk session beginning Wednesday? Prior to 10 AM?

    Thanks for the clarification…

The big boats will be coming back to Rainy Lake Houseboats (RLH) midday on sunday so do plan for a sunday breakfast.

As groups will be arriving at different times we’ve decided to hold the seminar out on the tie up site once everyone has arrived. Our other option was to wait for all groups to arrive at RLH and then hold the seminar. Doing so would force the early arrivers to wait for the late comers and that didn’t make sense. So as soon as you arrive with your group on Wednesday get checked in, go through the pre-launch walk through and head out to the tie up area.

I’ll be sending out an itinerary over the weekend to help everyone get a feel for what they need to bring along with more info on how everything works. I just got back from my first trip on a houseboat and I predict that everyone will have their best fishing trip ever.

James here is a question that came up in our group forum about tackle for the trip………

    Quote:

My backup stock of jigs and K grubs from B fishin showed up at the door today and I have been trying to get all the stickbaits etc in order.Anyone thought about what we should plan on for live bait at all.Would a flat of crawlers be worth looking into or buying minnows at one stop when the time comes maybe.I intend to use plastics alot but am not sure if they should be relied on for the entire trip.Any thoughts?

    Hey Andy!!

Great question!! The Rainy Lake One Stop is located off Hwy 11 as you are heading towards Rainy Lake Houseboats on your right side. I will be in contact with them to let them know that we are going to put a big dent in the bait supply. I will be sinking bait tamers with our bait, and would suggest if you don’t have any to get some. They are fantastic for keeping your bait alive. They also have a nice assortment of tackle, last minute groceries and supplies. Rainy Lake Houseboats has a nice selection of clothes To bring home for the family!! Very nice stuff!!

Start watching that long range forecast. We’ve got everything planned out and the fish will bite. All we need now is some decent weather. I know this group will fish in anything but some nice warm days with light winds will absolutely seal the deal.

We’re sitting at 33 degrees this morning boys!! The cool nights will spur on that Fall bite. I’m going to bring my groups out on some fall locations to see if anyone is home. As ALWAYS don’t forget the long johns, and I’m not talking the eating kind!! Even on some of our nicest fall days the mornings and evenings might call for a heavier mix of Baileys in the Java!!

No. Its better this way. Just one of the perks of being an IDO staff guy.

I called Rainy Lake One Stop and asked about reserving several dozen shinner minnows and was told there was no way they can do that for individuals.
Not sure I got this right but it did sound like they might be able to do this for the entire IDO group but that it would have to be put together by the organizers.

I’m certainly not trying to create any extra work for you guys. (James, Chris and anyone else involved) Pretty sure you guys have plenty to do already.

But if that is not a possibility, does anyone know of another place where we can stop on the way up and buy shinner minnows?

    Joel,

There might be a few places in the Duluth/Superior area if you are crossing into MN at that point. For a trip like this, I can’t imagine going without at least 3-5 dozen per boat per day. But that can very depending on how hard you all fish.

Man do wish I could have jumped on this GTG! Have a great time to all. I will one of the guys at home checking for pictures.

How in the heck do you keep that many alive on a houseboat for 5 days, they will die on you just looking at them.

Bait Tamers. I’m planning on bringing several of them.
