    Hey all,

I’m looking for suggestions on shops in the metro to do an oil / filter change on my duramax. I just got the truck last month so this is my first time through and would like to set up a bit of a relationship with a good shop that is fair on prices.

    Thanks in advance.

I would be more than happy to do it for you James.

Once we get the transmission out of the way…it’s a snap!

I have diesel as well. The cost of oil changes on them certainly is a bit more costly. I have been looking at Amsoil. They have a synthetic that you are able to go something like one year, 30,000 miles depending on use, or they can test the oil to see when it needs to be changed.

A regular oil change costs me between $70-$110 depending on place I have taken it. The amsoil synthetic would be somewhere around the $100 mark.

I have not made up my mind yet and have some more checking to do, but another option for you to look at anyway

I have a F-250 7.3l diesel. Ford uses a synthetic blend from the factory so I switched to Amsoil 2 years ago and change once a year. I put about 15k before the change. You can get it tested and go longer if you want.

This is what I do!! With an amsoil filter of course.

James, also think about how/when you’re going to change your fuel filter. I do mine twice a year, once right before winter (nov) then again in six months. Also keep a spare filter with just in case of gelling issues. On the dodges they are easy and cheap to replace, not so for you chevy folks..

Amsoil huh I’ll have to look into that. Even if it cost $200 and I could go 30,000 miles it would be worth it. Thanks for the post AverageSportsman

The oil/filter should cost around 130 ish from fleet farm. Oil is 33–35ish a gallon x 3 gallons, filter is like $25 if memory serves me right.

I’m not going to mess with changing my own oil. Collecting and disposing of it responsibly is too much of a hassle in my opinion. So…

“I’m looking for suggestions on shops in the metro to do an oil / filter change on my duramax.”

Obviously I’d like to take it to a garage with fair prices and experience working with the diesels. Any suggestions?

I have ran only rotella synthetic oil in my diesel car. I change the oil every 6000 miles and the filter every 12000. However on the filter, my unit has a large paper filter that goes into a caister. I have 250,000 mile on her and she still purrs like a kitten, and gets a respectable 43 mpg.

Not sure if I had it back when you were practicing your triggering technique on a hvlp back in dept 09. I keep hoping I will run into you down at the river someday.

James…Take it to Fleet Farm, have them set you up with Amsoil and you are set for the long run.

If Fleet Farm doesn’t know diesels…who does?

The last place I went to was advertising a $19.99 oil change…when I got the bill it was $26.99!!!

Watch the small print with ads…I was also offered tires for $750 which the guy thought was a deal!

I’ve got a great guy down here in Hastings, you make the trip down to p3/4 enough to work for you?

It’s a diesel. Just my opinion, but synthetic is a waste in a diesel. The Dmax is easy, but now I just bring mine in. Again, it’s a diesel. Drive it and be happy. They are very strong engines. I bring mine to Elk River Ford and it’s like $50. Best thing is that they do all the recalls (if any) and check the rest of the vehicle. Usually they fill up the washer fluid, etc. and maybe even a wash. Get a dealer with good service, and you are set. They also keep records for you of your maintenance.

I am using M&M automotive up in Maple Grove for my ’01 7.3L powerstroke – they work on my two cars whenever except for any recalls.

Might not be convenient as I recall you are down in Richfield.
