We have a (minor?) repair that needs to be done on my wife’s Chevy vehicle… Do you guys know of any decent, honest mechanics/shops in EC that we could try? Marquardt’s in chippewa Falls/Hallie is where we usually go, but I’m not against trying other places… Especially ones that might be a little closer to my home near the SE side of EC…

    Thanks!

Anderson Automotive on the North side. Chris is honest, straight forward, and genuine. I would recomend him in a heart beat. He will help you out any way he can even if it means him not making money on that particular issue. Thats what I call service. Other than waranty work on a newer vehicle I don’t take my vehicles anywhere else!

I’ve used ATS for several years. They seem to do good work (no complaints or bring backs) and are willing to talk to you about what is going on. they are located on the service road near the Clairemont Avenue access to the bypass.

I recently ran across another shop in the same area that has been really helpful and very reasonably priced for a garage. My son bought a used car that needed several repairs and they did them all and I was blown away by how cheap the price was. These guys are my new best friends and will certainly get the next work I need. This is not a high tech looking shop, but more of the family mechanic type shops I grew up with. This garage is Lyman’s Auto Service. They are at 3208 Martin Street in Altoona. If you turn north off Clairemont at Dragonette’s you will see the garage. Martin Street is the first left.

    Good Luck

I personally would not got to Advanced Transmissions Service. Had a few bad experiences there that i can explain if you wish. I personally would stick with marquarts since you have been going there, but if you must, there are a few others in the area that are good. What type of issue do you have?

Sounds like the front wheel bearing/hub on my wife’s 2002 Chevy Trailblazer needs replacement. Doesn’t sound like an extremely inexpensive fix, either. The part is the more expensive portion, I guess. Labor is comparitively not too bad.

Wow, awesome responses so far! Thanks guys!!!! I will give some of these guys calls for estimates!

I’ll “third” Advanced Transmission And Service. I’ve known the owner since 1994 and worked with him until he started his shop where ATS is. Fact is any shop can have a comeback and fail to make it right in the customers eyes. Most try their level best not to but it happens.

Also another toss in for Bob and Adam’s Automotive. I’ve known Bob as long as John at ATS and know Bob to be an honest fellow as well. Never had a car repaired their but, like ATS, has surpassed the magical 5 year in business mark.

I’d love to throw in a Kudo’s to Eau Claire Ford because they have some awesome technicians but because the so called owners are such A holes I cannot. Customers there went from being treated like people to being treated like numbers. The shop there is great but management SUCKS. Speaking from inside experience.

    Mike,

I am sure you get a number of recommendations. Here are a couple I have had recommended to me or have had good luck at, however I am sure we could find someone who has had a not-great experience at these places.

    – Arrow Alignment: Have went here for suspension/alignment, I have had good luck as well as some other people I know.
    – Steve’s Hillcrest
    – Birch Street Auto

I would stick with Marquarts after hearing that. If you must go somewhere else, you may want to give southside tire a call. Have done a lot of bussiness with them and are very good to deal with, and are decent with there prices. Great service and help with diagnosing a problem with you before they fix it.

And I have to add a to Steve at Hillcrest! This guy is an excellent technician. Not sure about prices but I assume he is fair as he too has been in business a long time. Besides the only time price is an issue is when the work isn’t done correctly.

Olsons on Truax, Northside Services in Altoona, or check out CVTC, all you pay for is the parts. Is it Mechanical or Cosmetic? I know the instructors in both areas very well, PM me and and I can get you in touch with them!
