Can some of you guys help me out here. I have started a hunting and fishing guide service, I have been guiding but now I am going legitimate.. Getting licensed and insured..

Where do I find Insurance?? Do I need business Ins. or what?? My regular agent for my truck and house says they don’t offer that insurance.. I am thinking I need some sort of liabilty ins.?? Any help would be great..

If I were you I would send a PM to BK. I think the insurance agent might have thought that you wanted insurance in case your client didn’t bag anything.

Your regular boat insurance policy will not cover you when operating for hire. You need true professional liability insurance that covers you while guiding.

Anglers Advantage offers Guide coverage as a rider on a boat policy. When I started guiding, I carried this type of policy. If I remember correctly, it was ~ $250 annually, on top of a beefed up policy (increased limits and coverages).

IDO member Justin Schneider is an insurance agent who can help you with the Anglers Advantage products.

There are a number of companies out there that offer Professional Anglers Insurance but price wise I’ve found them all to be in the $900-$1000 annually and that’s just for fishing. I have no clue how much more hunting would be on top of that. It’s a pretty big upfront cost each year but it’s very nice to know you’re covered. I’d recommend a million dollar policy as well, it doesn’t cost that much more and $500,000 won’t last long if you do have a claim.

Last Sept we went down to Tx. Used 3 guides. In chatting with them about guiding ect we touched on insurance. One said State Farm and I don’t recall the other insurance company another one said. Out of the three only 1 actually had Guide Insurance.

Getting a hook in the hand with an emergency room bill isn’t a big deal, but if something bad happened. The guide and the customer or worse the customers family is S-C-R-E-W-E-D!

I now ask who the insurance provider is when I hire a guide.
