My 7 year old newphew, Benjamin caught his firts walleye yesterday. It was caught off the dock at his parents cabin on a “un-named” Brainerd Lakes area lake early in the morning, while still wearing his PJ’s. The monster walleye measured 29″ long with a 17-1/2″ girth weighing in at 11 pounds! The fish took the Gulp-Alive minnow and bobber combination hook-line-and sinker, the battle ensued until Benjamin’s mom got the net and landed this beautiful fish. The fish is being mounted as it did not survive after all the excitement.

Nice, he will fish a long time before he beats that. Heck, that is bigger then anything I have caught in about 33 years of fishing.

    Congrats to your nephew!

    Another one hooked for life!

    That photo is mountable!!

Too bad it’s too late to enter it in the Beckman contest. I’m thinking it would have place very high.

    Nice catch!!

Wow!! Congrats to the little man, hopefully it gets him “hooked” to this great sport! Good luck Benjamin, hopefully it doesn’t take you as long as lip to catch another one!

That is a great photo. Now you said gulp under a bobber? Looks like I may have to give that a try.

Great story and picture. My 4 year olds are hitting the lake on Saturday for some pannies. Hard to top that picture though.

I’d send that story into Berkley. The boy’s photo could end up in an advertisement.

    Great fish.
