BOAT STOLEN- HELP PLEASE!!

Two thoughts. One is when some one offers you equipment that is too good to be true, remember you might be encouraging this.
The other is my boat is so unique you wouldn’t make it out of the county with out some one noticing. Most of your boats look like a million others. Too bad you couldn’t “paint” a large avatar on some where so a person would damage the paint job removing it, not just a fish decal.
Lost a 20hp many years ago, hope you have luck finding it. Couple of suggestions, print your picture and take it out and canvas your neighborhood. Police won’t spend the time to check it out. Do a little leg work of your own. Make sure your local law enforcement tells all its people to be on the look out. This info is general not passed on shift to shift.

Jeremy I contacted some of the News stations in the Twin Cities and Maggie Newland from channel 5 replied back to me and wants to do a story on this she should be giving you a call sometime today.

    Great Idea Steve

Unfortunately I’m stuck at work while this saga unfolds, but I hope it works out for the best.

I can’t even imagine what I’d do if this happened to me

I wouldn’t even know where to start

I think I’m gonna have to take some pictures of the rig and all my gear. Then I’m gonna have to write a detailed list of all the makes, model #, and serial # of every concievable piece of equipment I have.

What a pain in the but I guess I’ll just suck it up so if something like this happend to me, I’d be prepared

    Good luck

Sounds like a classic case of either being scoped or someone who knew your plans is on the take. Any neighborhood witnesses or info? Anyone you know taking a sudden trip somewhere?

Hate to say it but these kind of thefts are rarely done for possession so let’s all pray they’re that stupid! Items will likely be split up and sold and not usually in obvious places. If I were to guess, your rig is 5 states away by now and resembles a fau registration. It’s about guaranteed no one wanted your stuff, just the money it can bring and that’s what makes these crimes so hard to solve.

I really feel for ya and I hope they turn out to be totally stupid idiots who get caught. If they’re not found out, I do hope your insurance will at least replace the items lost and your annual trips can resume again soon.

Check Pawns shops along with E-Bay and Craigslist often… Criminals are quite stupid to begin with!…

One more Jeremy, WCCO called me tonight around 7pm wanting to know if you got your boat back yet, they would like to talk to you also and said they would give you a call. This was the first chance I had to get back to the computer. Hopefully with a few of the stations running your story your boat will be found. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed.

    Everyone,
I have some good news and not so good news! First I want to thank the outpooring of help and concern for me and my family from all of you, especially you Steve!!

They found our boat on Bryant ave in MPLS trashed with 2 flat tires and the 4 stroke 115hp motor hanging by 2 bolts!!
I have NO IDEA of what is left of the custom cover and all the fishing equipment inside along with the kids clothes and bikes and everything else as we still decided they couldn’t take our vacation away from us and we are up in Walker, MN at Leech Lake. When I get back I will figure out all of those details and I already have made claims for homeowner’s insurance to replace anything that is damaged or missing alltogether. I am sure the boat and trailer will need major repairs or replacement all-together.

My best piece of advice is video-tape and write down eveerything you keep in your boat, cuz WOW we are still coming up with stuff that was in there and it adds up fast!

Thanks again, look for a possible News story later this week.

    -Jeremy

congrats on getting the boat back.. are there video cameras of the street where the boat was found? if so, the police should be able to find these fine gentlemen and turn them over to the sportsmen of the IDO fishing forum for a visit.

where we can instruct them into learning this is mine and not yours. and afterwards those fine gentlemen can spend some time talking to the Police with a “come to Jesus attitude.. “

I am sure that we could persude them and others like them the rules of touch, no touch, in very simple terms..

Good luck with your insurance carrier.. and if you have problems with them, let us all know.. so that we can pursude them as well to be generous in their assessment of your claim.

glad that there is some closure here..

I’ve been following this thread and have to ask if the trailer had the hitched locked down and if the boat was outdoors. Even in the garage I wrap my chains around the tongue a couple times and then lock each when the hitch gets the lock closed.

Sad story anyway. Its too bad you didn’t have some bad wiring touching the trailer frame while your batteries were charging and a large puddle under the boat.

    Hi Everyone,
Good news, (other than a fisherman with kids who love to fish and a wife who loves time on the water are out a boat, the insurance company totalled the boat out for $700 less than I paid for it from a dealer 4 yrs ago. I did not return any calls a week later when I got back from vacation to news stations to give the criminals any glory and I don’t care to be on the news really, so I am waiting for the small amount I will clear after deductible and loan being paid off, with cover and GPS you really don’t come out ahead much as they are gone but figured into boat value, when you pay for them after buying the boat. Anyways, i appreciate the support, now to continue waiting on insurance $$ for personal items and rods/lures etc. that won’t be recovered.

Sorry to hear you got hit like that. When you check into insurance, there is an personal property addition you can put on your boat insurance.

I was worried about that as well. So when I talked with my agent, she told me we could add an $8,000 personal property coverage for the graphs, rods, tackle, etc. You can adjust that number as you see fit. That way if my boat is stolen or sunk with all it’s accessories. Everything is covered, minus the deductible.
